I give that advice cuz I've experienced the other side all to often. Like I used to say, cynically, the story of my life is not being there.
Well, I'm in the middle now, I'm still young but I can see the end from here. If I don't do it( fulfill the promise) in this life I'll enter the next one with a stack full of bounced checks!
hey twisted sister! yeah i wuz tikkled pink to get a call from u guyz. i guess i woulda seen Cave play this weekend if i was in the city, but i was down here( StL) working n nursing a cold. It's funny, as i got this i was just listening to my friend's band Ga'an which is real hypnotic and drony( but driving) as i stumbled upon some profiles of past acquaintances who havn't logged on in years, confirming my hope that one can be a sort of virtual ghost on myspace..
one thing i learned while living in Louis B4 is that it really is a small fukking world. thatz y i told u to go to new york years ago. In fact, I've become a semi-citizen of chicago again just by playing that one sax part on a cave record. I planned my trip to coincide with a couple of cave shows, their last with ex-keyboardist Adam, who was a part of my initial interest in playing with them, and of course they invited me to play the two shows once i got up there. The timing had a practical purpose as well. Coop is just a hard guy to catch up with, busy as he is, and i knew i had every certainty of finding them as they were playing a free street festival! While i was there i met a girl and i've been going there ever since.
That's the one thing I've learned, that one just has to make oneself available in the loosest sense of the word, just by leaving the house, even if it's to go to university galleries, which is where i met you.. One has to be there to recieve new experience, to be a hunter-gatherer of knowledge.. That's why I've been living this uprooted( that's the word i've been looking for) lifestyle!
