Technology. Reading. Video games of the platform variety (because I LIKE frustrating myself to no end). My various bbs and blogs. There are some seriously funny people out here. My job. I really like it. My kids. I really like them. My house (though I'm a LOUSY housekeeper, it's a wonderful challenge to attempt to create order out of chaos every day). Sleep. I never seem to get enough.
Music
My taste is eclectic to say the least. Classic rock, alternative of most varieties, classical, jazz, new age (yes, I own Enya actually like it), punk, trance, techno, R&B, just B...pretty much everything except Gangsta Rap and country.
Please visit some of my friends' band pages.
Movies
Tell you what. As soon as I find a reliable babysitter and can start GOING, I'll get back to you.
Some movies with a powerful impact on my life: Leaving Las Vegas; The Salton Sea; The Lord of the Rings (all of them);
If you want to really know how I felt as an adolescent, check out Welcome to the Dollhouse. It's sort of a female version of Napoleon Dynamite.
Television
No time. The TiVo is packed with the last two years of Gilmore Girls, ER, and House. I don't get to watch. My secret vice is true crime shows. When the husband is out on a Saturday night, I watch Cold Case Files, American Justice, any of the Law and Order shows. So sue me.
Books
Hah. As if any of you REALLY want to know. How about by genre and author? If I've listed an author, I've read everything by that person to date.
Juvenile: Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, A.A. Milne, Lemony Snicket...et al. For the record, I own the complete sets of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. Life is good.
Sci-Fi, Fantasy: Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Tolkien
Horror: Stephen King, Peter Straub, Robert McCammon, Anne Rice (and yes, I've read the non horror erotica stuff as well)
Mystery: Andrew Vachss (you HAVE to check this guy out), Martha Grimes, Dana Stabenow, Janet Evanovich, PD James, Kathy Reich, Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwall....et al. I like the series stuff.
Nonfiction: Helter Skelter got me going on the true crime stuff. Still a good read. I have a morbid fascination with the Black Dahlia murder, and read whatever I can about that. Again...ssshhh! This is my secret vice.
About me: I am a positively ancient individual with NO interest in being a dominatrix (pervs need not apply). I have been teaching for a LONG time, and would like to spy on my students on MySpace. I also love to give long lectures on internet safety and other kinds of safety.
Who I'd like to meet: My biological parents. But not enough to chase them down. I'm listed in registries. If they ever get interested, they can find me.
AWA welcomes ASAN President Ari Ne'eman and Board Member Paula Durbin Westby, organizer of Saturday October 31st Washington DC area protest against Autism Speaks. We'll be hearing from them about ASAN's protest at Autism Speaks' DC area walk-a-thon Saturday as well as the growing wave of protests against Autism Speaks around the country, why its happening, where its going, what its implications and importance will be for the neurodiversity movement & the autistic community. In addition, we'll be checking in with ASAN on some of their advocacy priorities inside the beltway, asking about how Autistic people will be impacted by the health reform packages being considered by Congress and what pending legislation on school abuse might have to help Autistic students.
I certainly hope and pray that the winds are blowing the firestorm away from your neighborhood --- and that you and your family are save and sound. Got my fingers crossed for you!!! From the news we are getting on the East Coast, it sounds terrible. You guyze need some rain from that hurricane (and no mudslides afterwards).
Sorry if I have a TWISTED sense of humor. This is an obnoxious attempt to get more blog subscribers. Basically just taking a break from writing my novel. Hope it interests you.
Oh, Great Spirit Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me, I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my Spirit may come to you without shame.
(translated by Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887)
