Oddly enough, Arborvitae Records was begun by an individual. Since then, however, it has blossomed into diverse and dynamic entity known as TEAM AV. Rather than loading all of our eggs onto one bandwagon, our label thrives through a grass roots connection to all facets of the music industry. We have worked with rock bands, punk bands, pop bands, DJs and electronic acts, folk singers and indie rock bands. We wholly support an idea of Arborvitae as a community within the community of art rather than simply as a record company. TEAM AV encompasses more than just the bands in our catalog. Early on we made a decision to work with people rather than bands, fashioning ourselves in the likeness of groups as Simple Machines, Tree, Temporary Residence and Constellation, working to create an identity with integrity that transcends musical genres and politics.
Aside from the music, there is an underlying theme of uniqueness to the label and our products that we try to maintain. Many of our CD releases have some sort of interactive feature, from short films to videos, and many others feature handmade custom artwork. Our unique releases and diverse roster have combined to build and identity that defies a "sound" or any categorization. Arborvitae is small, slow and personal. Anyone can put out a record, but we like to put out whole experiences. Arborvitae is a name that stands for something, which has become increasingly rare in independent music, and we find strength in numbers with TEAM AV.
