Running, minibus journeys, writing the cross country journal, and administering the myspace. Also writing songs about cross country, not beating judd at any matches at all, using cross country as an illegitimate excuse to skip mr jenkin's lessons, listening to lynyrd skynyrd in maths before xc matches, listening to gladiator music in the minibus.
Music
Dont Stop Me Now by Queen, Night Fever, Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz, Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen, RUN 49 The Essential Cross Country Mix, Pink Floyd the final (short)cut, The Strokes Shoes On Fire, Another One Bites the Dust, The Beatles - Sgt Kerr's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Love Shack (as everyone knows running is the next best thing to sex), and if you're Dave, our honorable captain, GLADIATOR.

Coming Soon:Cross Country Team Dinner, invites for all runners past and present. Provisional Date:16th March 7pm
FRESH RESULTS:
Just back from Wellington. Our two top performers escaped to norfolk today, but with extra support from mrs hynd and some fellow geography department staff, mr cowx braved the cold, but not the mud (he refused to take part in the staff relay race) and headed west. Navigating by the sun having locked all compasses in the geography base, the colleagues made eager progress across rugged terrain in their less than adequate minibus. Although back in the white van with increased headroom and more space for bags, mr cowxs decision to divert funding away from a team tour bus and into the orange posts for the haskell cup had severe reverberations. Nick pointed out that a 4x4 would be all the more ready to negotiate our bristling 6 packs (from the extra XC weights training planned for this term).
The juniors had an average start, but another star performance from Alex Clifford (fastest Junior runner), this seasons Joe Morewood-esque surprise, ensured a strong finish and a respectable place for the team. Nick Daniell lead off for the inters, with a first round lap faster than the senior runner, Rob Loveless, who had unfotunately been priorly engaged until 1 in the morning with considerabley exhausting clubbing. Rob's partner in crime, Chris, took over for the second lap, and closed the gap on the inters, despite a slower lap than their runner. Shackers gained another 3 places for the seniors, Josh a further 3, and Dave took 5 on the final lap to finish the seniors in 6th/18. Slightly lower than last years 4th, but with potential further down the team in the inters and juniors maybe next year will see medals for RGS! Will Hartley racing his favourite distance closed with an awesome lap, but sadly just short of getting the inters into the medals.
Earlier in the week, another close call for the A team at the Goaters Cup Relay at Haberdashers. Finishing 4th with a team of Dave T,Joe,Johnny,Alex,Charles and Tim, again one place off the medals. Alex and Johnny were awarded fastest laps, and Joe was only 3 seconds off an England runner. The B teams strong start disintegrated. Oli Hill-Smith set a good pace on his seasons debut, but Marcus,Jamie,Nick,Will and Josh, not essentially suited to sprint matches (except Will) fared slightly worse off than their A team counterparts, finishing midway down the field. Training steps up a gear this week, and although Tuesday was cancelled due to Mr Cowx's fatigue from his coast run at the weekend, Thursday's training and Saturday's district run promise to make for excillarating exercise.
In other news, the date for the cross country dinner is provisionally the 16th March. Runners past & present, and some retired stars of RGS XC.
BREAKING NEWS:
Andy Evans hounoured by latest Guildfordian. Tribute to the greatest cross country coach RGS ever saw:
UPCOMING MATCHES:
The dreaded knowle run is little over a week and a half away and speculation is rife as to what will consist the A team. For many runners this will be their last knowle run ever, and for others there is years of pain and hardship ahead. One of mr Cowx's favourites because of the scenery maybe we can better last years very strong performance and maybe, just maybe win ourselves some more medals.
One of the Cross Country Team's Most Recent Exploits:
.. here you can read about the exploit of Team Cowx (formerly Team Evans, or of late The Atje TEAM). Recently the journals have been recommenced, and after a slow start with the pre season training (test) run, the team failed to jump its firts hurdle, finishing 4th out of 5 in the friendly against Tiffin. However all is not lost, for we believe we are still the only cross country team in all of Surrey (possibly Britain) with a myspace to its name.
Did You Know? Cross Country Running is actually safer than sex. You are more likely to catch AIDs than you are to become seriously injured tripping over a root whilst running
Did You Know? Looking Cool is a Prerequisite to Winning has been the long running slogan of the RGS cross country team. Many memebers of the team actively refuse to wear kit, unless it is Gucci, Prada, or at a stretch Ralph Lauren.
Did You Know? Cross Country Runners are Twice as Likely to Pull as other sports persons. This is mainly due to the gruff, manly image which running conveys. It shows our primitive skills at their best, and in early history the best runners would often make good hunters(read "players").
