2009 Projects
Mentoring Network
New for 2009, Team Haverhill will partner with public schools and four child-related agencies on a coordinated "Site-Based Mentoring" initiative. We will also explore city-wide literacy initiatives that might be implemented in Haverhill.
Expanded Curbside Recycling
Education and advocacy continues regarding city-wide, curbside single-stream recycling. Recent figures show that if Haverhill could attain an overall recycle rate of 20-25% (compared to our current 10%) the result would be a net gain for the city budget. Downtown Murals
Three new downtown murals are slated to be produced in partnership with the Discovery Club after-school program.
Soles of Haverhill "Shoe-la-bration"
An annual three-month public art installation downtown involving ten to twenty giant sculptures in the form of a high-button shoe, each embellished by a different artist. Auction of the shoes to benefit Haverhill arts and community projects.
Shoes and the Soul of Haverhill
In co-ordination with the public art "shoe project", we will explore the impact of the shoe industry on Haverhill's character, architecture and self-image. Events and publications will invite the public to reflect on our city's past, present and future.
Candidate Forums
Our 2007 Mayoral Forums were a great success. We plan to once again co-sponsor programs designed to help the public consider key issues as we prepare to vote for Mayor and City Councilors.
Playground Project
We plan to continue our work to improve playgrounds and recreation areas so that our city offers a safe and friendly environment for families and children.
Expanded Farmers Market
A team is exploring ways to expand and improve Haverhill's summer Farmers' Market.
HCTV Show
A team is exploring the production of a regular Team Haverhill TV show on local community television.
