About me:

Institutet is an investigation of theatrical action beyond representation and drama. We wish to participate in an international exchange of ideas and methods of contemporary scenic research and artistic practice. We understand the theatre event as a social event where the artists and audience enact the ritualistic patterns expected of them, unless we find counterstrategies of opening up a gap between those expectations and the artistic ideas and methods. We have sometimes used the club-experience as a frame for the theatrical event and sometimes we use the more traditional performer/spectator situation as a starting point for contextual investigations.

For Insitutet it has become a method to identify with the opressor instead of the victim, an important shift of focus that must be understood in relation to the habit of todays society of always trying to associate with the victims morally superior position. Until recently Institutet was in charge of theatre space in Malmoe, but lost it due to a debate raised by the production "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" spring 2008.

The future of Insitutet is now as uncertain as exciting...will there be room for an alternative such as Institutets in the swedish theatre scene or not?
