About me:
I've been writing about music since my Senior year in college. Ironically, it's taken me a lot further than the degree I earned.
Roughly chronologically, I've written for Anti-Matter, Alternative Press, Wired, Blaster, Rolling Stone, Spin, Urb, Raygun, Res, Orbit, Hour Detroit and XLR8R.
Somewhere in there I got the idea to get the story of Detroit Techno down on paper. It started with a cover story called "Techno Rebels" in Urb and grew into a book proposal by the same name.
Techno Rebels was published by Billboard Books (an imprint of Watson-Guptill) in 1999. I can't believe it's been that long already.
I should also mention "Reverb," the music digizine I started around 1993. A fun little pre-Web experiement in self-publishing using the "Museum" app for the Mac. With the help of Matt MacQueen, I brought it to the Web where it can still be found.
These days it's all about the new project -- Moodmat. It's a collaborative blog about freeform music and the people who champion it. Fancy headline widget can get you there:
