Since 1999 Teddie has dedicated herself to historical performance, being fascinated by the timbre and vocal qualities of the traverso. As a musician, she believes in the importance of music to transform and inspire people's lives. She appreciates greatly when audience members come forward to tell her how the performance has touched them in a unique, personal way.
In addition to performing with her ensemble Le Mercure, Teddie collaborates with various chamber ensembles and orchestras, playing repertoire ranging from 17th century French airs de cour to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Concert tours have taken her from Poland to Japan, from the Philippines to Mexico. Born in Hong Kong, she wishes to introduce Western early music performance to the Far East as a way to encourage people to discover the roots of their own music as well.
Teddie studied with Wilbert Hazelzet and received her master's degree in historical flute performance from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, Netherlands. She holds a Bachelor of Music and Germanic Studies from Indiana University, where she studied modern flute with Kathryn Lukas and graduated with high distinction. She is also indebted to Barbara Kallaur, who introduced the baroque traverso to her during her studies at Indiana. First-prize winner of the 2004 Baroque Flute Artist Competition held by the National Flute Association of America, she was an adjudicator in its 2006 Baroque Flute Masterclass Competition. In addition, she was a recipient of Indiana University's Austin B. Caswell Award for excellence in musicological research.
Teddie takes inspiration from the songs of turtledoves and blackbirds.
