My favorite radio statement: Touchdown!! Penn State! (As announced by Steve Jones, Penn State Radio Network)
Pet Peeves:
Hearing people say: "whatever" or "it doesn't matter."
Selfish people that always want more and more in spite of all that has been done for them.
Can someone tell me how Poker is a sport?? That is one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard.
| | Music |
I am more towards specific songs more so than artists. My musical preferences cover a wide and varying appeal. Among the genres are country, bluegrass, 80's rock, classic rock, some oldies, Celtic, New Age, classical, show tunes, polkas, and television show jingles...and more. I really do not like hip hop, rap, and gangsta.
| | Movies |
Among my movies: The Godfather I and II (there was no Godfather III), Dr Zhivago, St Elmos Fire, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, The Passion of the Christ, The Wizard of Oz, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Chipmunk Movie, Grease, and A Christmas Story. However, I completely enjoy many, many others. My favorites are comedies, dramas, documentaries - especially movies that challenge me and make me think. I also enjoy movies like "Sweet Home Alabama" and similar ones. If I were to list all the movies I enjoy, I would be here until 2020. LOL!!
| | Television |
I enjoy such shows as CSI, The History Channel, The Travel Channel, Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN, and Public Television. I like some reality shows, documentaries, and ESPN.
Anomar: A Comedic Saga
She experienced a childhood ripe with many physical and emotional ailments. A strong example of this is when she tried to eliminate herself from life twice while in high school. When she met and began dating a significant other, she was seeing two therapists and was taking three anti-depressants. Among the external maladies were her own overbearing and condescending mother, a weak father, and a dysfunctional extended family. .....to be continued
| | Books | I enjoy most books. My all-time favorites are Heidi: Child of the Mountain, Papal Encyclical Laborum Exercens, The Iliad, all Snoopy and Charlie Brown Books, Gulag Archipelago, Travels with Charlie, The Republic, Of Mice and Men, A Season in Hell, The Way Things Are (De Rerum Natura), Inferno, The Boxcar Children, and several others. In addition, I enjoy books on gardening, the outdoors and nature, home remodeling and repair, selected poetry, and hobby-related.

About me:
One of my favorite sayings: "Your task God said is to build a better world. And I asked him how. This world is so vast, so complicated now. And me, I am so meek there is not much I can do. But God in all His Wisdom said just build a better you"
I retired out of United States Steel Corporation (Clairton, Irvin and Edgar Thomson Plants) where I had worked for 15 years as a corporate trainer and a manager.
I returned to Penn State in 2003 for a PhD in Adult Education (focus on work and learning) for conducting research and to be a professor (travel in the summer – lol). My experiences at USS have informed my research and I anticipate defending in October (WHEW!!) at which time I am done and will have earned the PhD.
I am drawing upon Vygotsky’s and Engeström’s theories regarding activity theory as the means to describe and explain the learning experienced in the work place. I have been invited to several places to present my research with the possibility of going to conferences in other countries (I have been invited to present research in Australia). My research agenda is to investigate the learning lives of the coal miners and steel workers in southwestern Pennsylvania in response to the changing face of work. Rising from this, I wish to proffer a fresh approach to understanding and delivering workplace training.
But with all the success with which I have been Blessed, I strive to remain humble. The best advice I ever received was from a man who said that – Successful is the man who does not let his mountains get too high and his valleys get too low. I embrace life and am eager to share it but maintaining an even keel in response to tribulations and exhilarations.
I enjoy working at a boy scout summer camp as a Nature Director although earning the PhD has made this difficult. Once I earn this then I can work as a Nature Director each summer. I believe in the values, Aims, and Methods that the Boy Scouts of America demand. I had a very successful experience as a boy scout as evidenced by earning Eagle Scout and earning sixty-nine merit badges. I was the Senior Patrol Leader of a troop with five patrols and a full Junior Leader Corps. The values and leadership skills I gained from days as a youth has significantly contributed to my successes today. I am currently a District Training Director and help in other capacities.
Among other interests are I enjoy waking up early on a Saturday, packing a picnic basket and traveling to a place I have never been before. I enjoy most anything outdoors.. even making igloos... :-) I enjoy cooking and baking especially when trying different foods that I have never made. What is really cool is when I can host family and friends to the house for a get together and food. Whether it is a back yard cookout in the summer time or a winter break-the-blues party in the house. I also enjoy playing different sports whether a pickup game or on an organized team. And, I do enjoy quiet evenings and playing board games or building a puzzle (YES!! I said building a puzzle.).
Outdoor activities are my favorite. From hiking/backpacking, canoeing/boating, bowling, golf (both miniature and the big course), sitting on a blanket in the park or the forest, taking pictures, camping, and much more. I also enjoy dressing up and experiencing fine dining as well as attending a show, a performance, or a concert. I enjoy visiting coffee houses, or cafes, (especially if they are also a bookstore) and sit and just talk the night away about anything and everything...even solving the world's problems. Maybe crunch on a biscotti... ;-)
I am a very family-oriented man. I do dream of marrying and having/raising children. I enjoy big families as I come from one and hope to one day have my own. This is a thumbnail sketch of who I am and it hardly does me justice.

Who I'd like to meet:
I enjoy meeting people who share the same values and morals in which I believe and can have fun together. Too many times, we meet people who are on power trips and want to control others. This is a complete turn off. I like being part of a group of people who can relax around each other without fear of being played.
Featured Recipe:
Whipped Cider Sweet Potatoes
2 sweet potatoes (about 1 1/4 lbs), peeled and cut into1-inch pieces 1 1/2 cups apple cider 1 cinnamon stick 1 tablespoon butter, optional salt
freshly ground black pepper
In a saucepan, combine potatoes, cider and cinnamon stick and bring to boil, stirring occasionally. The liquid will not cover the potatoes entirely. Reduce the heat, partially cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until tender and a knife can easily pierce them, stirring occasionally. Remove cinnamon stick. Add butter and beat until smooth. Season generously with salt and pepper.
Serves 4

Picking sweet potatoes: make sure the potato is firm without cracks and bruises. When storing, remember the flavor could be altered if stored in the refrigerator. For best storage, keep them in a cool, dark and well-ventilated place. If the temperature is too warm, they could sprout and become woody. Once cooked, sweet potatoes can only be stored for up to one week in the refrigerator.
