Ted Eliason never asked to be born. He is the product of product placement, the inadvertent result of advertisements, the outcome of our celebrity obsession, and so it goes. Shooting from the hip, Eliason's lyrics offer a unique perspective of our world, evoking melancholy and a sense of confused wonder, leaving the listener both pleased and amused. His music comes pre-packaged in easy to swallow 3 minute capsules, with melodies that stick to the brain like Wizard Glue. Eliason is currently backed by what he terms a "Psychedelic Party Band," featuring drums, guitar, bass, Rhodes electric piano and in Eliason's own words, "dueling clarinets." The [sept/sex/quin/quar]tet pop up periodically at Chicago venues, coffee houses, campfire rallies and the occasional pancake breakfast. His first solo effort, The Tentcoat (Fall 2008), features such guests as Mellotron luminary Bill MacDonald, local starlet Holly Winters, novelist Daniel Gildersleeve and art-rock sensations The Presidential Hippopotamus. 12 songs spanning as many genres, as unique and wondrous as months of the year, each painting a portrait more frighteningly vivid than the last. With influences ranging from Elvis Costello to The Flaming Lips to early 1970's prog-rock prodigies Kitty Porter and the Hystericals, Ted Eliason takes no prisoners as he dishes out 31 flavors of rock and roll. Please enjoy a sample, but remember to deposit your spoon in the designated receptacle.
