I was built in 1942 by George and Toppie Belcher and enjoy an experience of a lifetime. My interior and exterior have been completely restored and I am proud of my new looks. I am located 1.2 miles South of Hwy. 59 on Business 59 in a friendly rural setting.
Visit the place that has been in the movies! Scenes from the 1995 remake of Lolita were filmed in Tipi 102..
Each of the ten units has a comfortable bedroom and private bath and are equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and hairdryer. One of the units is designed to accomodate handicap visitors. I can provide you with a free DSL Internet connection in your room. Cover-up at night with homemade Star quilts that were purchased throughout Texas. Each room has its own unique interior design and no two rooms are alike.
There are picnic tables and B-B-Q pits for those wanting to cook while staying here. My campfire has been host to many roasted moshmellows and hot dogs.
Groups are more than welcome to come visit us! So far I have accomodated the Houston Classic Chevy Club, Katy Kruizers Car Club, Chrysler 300 Car Club, several birthday parties, a family reunion, girl scouts and wedding parties, just to mention a few. Groups should contact Amanda when calling.
This is our 50th Wedding Anniversary. 50 years ago we spent our wedding night in the flat tops.
Our kids gave us this for our anniversary and we truly enjoyed the stay.
Everything is real nice.
We have watched these for 50 years, for we live 6 miles east of Wharton. We are very grateful to have them open again.
God B less and good services.

The Start of the Tipi
TIPI originates from the Lakota language: TI - meaning 'to dwell or live'; PI - meaning, 'used for'. TIPI means ‘used to live in’.
The first nomadic peoples were drawn out onto the plains by the plentiful supply of big game animals. The constant movement and migration of the great herds of bison shaped their lifestyle. They needed a sturdy dwelling that could stand up against the severe prairie winds and yet could be dismantled at a moment's notice to follow the drifting herds.
The tipi was a very good shelter for the Plains Indians. It was easy to set up and take down. It was warm in winter, cool in summer and waterproof.

"In a society where labor has become for the overwhelming majority of people an alienating activity....the world of leisure has become the relatively free place where people attempt to realize who they really are. The space of "free time" is where the physical and emotional damage of work is repaired, the place where people relieve all the piled up unmet needs of rest, fun, creativity, critical thinking, and social connection. In sum, leisure is the location of a struggle to become more fully human." - Sandy Carter
