Hi everyone!!
My name is Te'ja Veal, and I'm a BASS PLAYER. I am self-taught, and I can both read music and play by ear. I've been playing for 10 years, and have been playing professionally for about 7. I'm primarily a jazz bassist (I play both upright and electric bass), but I've grown to play other styles with proficiency as well (including r&b/neo-soul, gospel, latin, musical theater and funk). I have a red Fender Jazz V bass, which i LOVE *smile*, use DR strings and my trusty Ampeg combo amp (it's the best!).
I listen to ALL types of music (a musician should always have an open mind), but my favorite styles are OLD SCHOOL r&b/soul/funk, neo-soul, jazz (swing, cool jazz, bebop, singer/songwriter and afro-cuban/latin jazz), EARLY/MID 90'S r&b and gospel (including neo-gospel...think deitrick hadden or adrianne archie). I also like world music, alternative/rock, classical (I play oboe as well), and some hip-hop and country-western.
Since I started gigging, I've been fortunate play all around South Florida, and have been blessed to play with/for several TALENTED artists and bands -- including jazz/gospel vocalist Ashaala Jenkins, jazz percussionist Leon 'Foster' Thomas (steel pan), gospel artist Johnny Sanders, jazz saxophonist Rob Batie, Ray Ray's Jazz Mix (big band), jazz trumpeter Jean Caze, Live Poet Society (r&b cover/spoken word band), jazz saxophonist Melton Mustafa, gospel artist Cornell Johnson...etc. [please see my resume posted in my blog for a full account]
I've also recently started doing studio work, which I'm SO excited about! **Kawan DeBose -- 'Vintage Soul' coming soon!!**
Currently, I play at New Birth Baptist Church. I also am the bassist for jazz/soul artist Kawan DeBose, the Sunshine Jazz All-Stars, and have recently been selected as the bassist for new gospel/soul singer Onitsha!!
As well as playing, I am also working on my own material...hopefully I'll be able get it out one day! I'm working hard to refine my craft and become a well-rounded musician. It is my desire to not be a good GIRL bass player, but an excellent BASSIST.
I LOVE music with all of my heart, I love my BASS with all of my soul, and I just thank God SO MUCH for finding me worthy of this gift! To HIM be ALL the GLORY!!
If you need a bassist, please feel free to contact me!
:-D
Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
- Te'ja
