Tekniq are J. Doe and DJ Hostyle otherwise known as J Williams and J Wright.They met at school but didn't see each other for a couple of years until they met up at a party. The rest is history. They started dabbling with music back in 1989 putting a few breaks and samples together from various big tunes around at the time, using a Casio sampling keyboard and an Amiga computer. From this John was hooked and started building a home studio where most Tekniq tracks are now produced. They have both been DJing since 1991 when they fromed Tekniq. Previously DJ Hostyle had been Djing on his own at illegals & club events but he hooked up with J DOE and they started playing back to back.

They have had several residencies, including Intense in Norwich and Camoflauge. They also used to do a 3 hour weekly D&B show on their local radio station Coastal. Tekniq have plenty of tracks under their belt. Their first release was in 1991 called 'Technophone' on Ozone Records which was followed by 'Belief' which was big in Japan. This was before drum`n`bass was born. Earlier tracks Rave/breakbeat/Techno styles.

They met up with DJ SS via a tape sent to him.DJ SS was at the forfront off the rave sound at the time.They both loved the Formation sound. They joined Formation and did a couple of tracks for the F-Project 'Vol. 10' and 'Vol. 30'. They worked allong side EQ of `Total exstasy` fame & DJ SS on a few ealier Formation EP`s like `rhythm for reasons`&`Power Play`. A few one off 12"s under the name of `The Eastcoasters` 1 & 2. They have also been involved with several LP's and had tracks on Highly Recommended, Jazz & Bass Volume I, Formations' Limited Edition Collectors Boxed Set, The Unifed Colours Of Drum & Bass , Jazz & Bass Session II & World of drum & bass.
Their biggest track to date on Formation was 'The Riot', which was released back in '96 and caned by the likes of Randall, Bryan Gee, Rap, SS and Grooverider, and "One Style" released back in '99 which made it to Number 1 on Fabio & Grooveriders' chart on Radio One. Also at this time they put out tracks on MOVING SHADOW RECORDS. The `Storm from the east LP`s 1 & 2 , `Drumfunk hooligans` 1 & 2 and few 12`s.
They both worked for a year on the unreleased TEKNIQ album project. Taking a break from producing but still sitting on the side lines watching the scene grow & develop. They aim to make a comeback with some new material when the time is right.New material coming soon.
