   About Telecom
"Ace, excellent, in heaven, indie, catchy melody, snappy, post-new wave/pre-Manchester sound, Brit-pop-at-the-beach, songs!"
-- Random media quotes about TELECOM taken completely out of context

TELECOM are a four piece indie-rock band who broke onto the Melbourne live-music scene in May 2005. Utilising two guitars (Darren Levin, Nick Roe), one lead-bass player (Gregory Erdstein) and one drum kit, with included cymbals (Blake Williams), they feature ex members of several bands that both you and they have not heard of.

If you can imagine Dinosaur Jr. as a Sonic Youth cover band, trying to play the music of The Pixies while fronted by Bruce Springsteen, you must have quite an imagination. TELECOM have quite an imagination too, but they harness it for the purposes of writing music, rather than dreaming up farcical super-groups that will never exist.

Launched August 16 2006, TELECOM’s debut EP “Modern Adventures” was recorded by Robbie Adams at Metropolis Audio Studios in Melbourne. It has received airplay Australia-wide on Triple J, in Melbourne on RRR and PBS, been added to rotation on FBi in Sydney, and on college radio in the USA -- including influential Seattle station KEXP who chose lead single "Second Feature" to be the station's Song of the Day on December 7 2006. In December 2006 “Modern Adventures” also headed a list of top 10 Australian non-label releases for 2006, as put together by Ryan Egan, host of RRR's Local and/or General. TELECOM also recently featured on Triple J’s Super Request program as the “Exposed Artist of the Week” and have been profiled on ABC's JTV.

“Modern Adventures” is available now for purchase online through www.telecomlovesyou.comor in Melbourne at Greville Records, International Trash, Missing Link and Polyester Records, in Sydney at Fish Records, Paint It Black and Red Eye Records and in Adelaide at Big Star Records.

Dear chachis I was reordering topigraphically my LP collection (INXS, Demis Russos, Nina, you get the drift) and came across some old Telecom recordings - they are currently on e-bay with a starting bid of ten cents - some gringo in Texas has already pushed the bidding to 11 cents so global warming prevailing I reckon it might get up to the price of crude by the end of the week.
PS 'second feature' still makes joni wet her pants.

Hey Telecom,
Since the Muddy Spurs broke up, I've been busy doing my new proj.
Hope you can make it to my launch this Sunday, 30 March at Bar Open.
I woulda have liked to dump some HTML code at this juncture, but I find you have wisely prevented me from doing so.
Excellent decision. And so I carry on to the next one of my poor myspace friends and spray my scent...
Yours 'Jane'
Daddy Cool

Feb 17 2008 10:52 PM

Stolen from outside his house last October, on the eve of Daddy Cool's national tour with The Beach Boys, Ross Hannaford's van, complete with cargo of irreplaceable guitars, amps, pedals & custom gadgets have reappeared. Amazingly the van had been used by joy riders and dumped in a backstreet only a few k's from home without the gear being uncovered. Finally a neighbour checked inside, found Hanna's number on his equipment and hey presto! all is back to normal. Ross is, of course, ecstatic to have his precious equipment returned, and wishes to thank each and everyone of you who contacted us, and says the love, care and support shown to him has been a life enhancing experience. By the way, he now has his own Myspace Site where you can check on upcoming gigs. Check it here www.myspace.com/rashannafordtrio

Hey Guys,

Bad news: we're gonna have to pull out of the Festival Hall gig. Unfortunately, Theodore has a Power of Positive Thinking seminar for work that weekend, and if he doesn't go there's a chance they'll fire him. I know it's late notice; if you need us to find you another support act, just drop us a line. We'll get our management team on to it.

Look, you know I would, but Jon Butler's been really cagey recently about the wig-outs. I think he saw how well we got along with Flee - and how, ultimately, we cured Flee of his slap bass compulsions - and he's a little uneasy about what impact our duets might have on his Trio. I was speaking to his hairdresser a couple of weeks ago and, apparently, despite the vibe and the groove that he has when he performs, he's not so casual about the management side of things. He's a bit of a gate keeper with shovels in both hands, if you know what I mean. But, look, I'll text him and see what he says. We actually cut many tracks, so if he gives us the green light, maybe you could put up a couple of the tracks on your myspace page.

I'll keep you posted, guys.

And I'm really loving what you're doing on the live circuit. When did you get the keyboard player, anyway?

Hey Dudes, it's been a while. Just wondering how the recording session with Dean Geyer went the other day? I heard he was doing backflips after those Virgin Maries.

Well thank you! We have nothing planned other than squeezing out the album (After 3 years gestation! You should see my stretch marks!) at the moment. We'll see what happens then re exotic trips to Melbs. But if I do get over, I'll be sure to look you up!

Now, despite your punk/DIY ethic, cecil tells me you prune your commentart base. So, if so, I might be exhausting my fingers - certainly not my mind though, baby, if my drift is catching! - but, tell me, your influences? I'm told, 1200-techniques-meets-Darren-Hanlon, though I'm sceptical.

Um, I've forgotten what we were talking about, but I have to split. There's a cab ringing my buzzer.

Bye guys.

Yours, Bono.

What an unusual sound. Kurt says it smells like teen spirit and I think it smells like a ladies bed. Hard to describe but creaming and screaming come to mind, metaphorically a beast panting at the door with rabic phlegm slavvering from his chops.

As she flew her plane further into the Bermuda Triangle, crackling through the radio, she heard a familiar voice - "You look so cool with your hair!"
"Who is this?" she asked over the radio.......the reply, after many seconds delay.......
"TELECOM LOVES YOU"
It's true she thought, Telecom Loves Me!
Suddenly, something caught her attention ,far ahead on the horizon.......
