Tell Your Friends might sound like a demand, but it’s actually the name of a nonchalantly innovative Chicago band comprising four unlikely musical heroes: Dan Schor, Brad Meyers, Jordan Gans and Matt Baron.
Tell Your Friends was born in 2006, but the band members knew each other well before its inception. Schor and Meyers are friends from grade school and Gans and Baron are acquaintances from high school. Gans recently replaced their former bassist and has gelled seamlessly with the band.
Schor, the man behind the faux-British accent, writes the group’s cryptic lyrics, distinctive guitar chords and off-kilter arrangements and then presents his ideas to the band at their Lakeview basement rehearsal space. From there, Meyers provides the gooey guitar hooks, Gans the sticky basslines, and Baron the minimalist drum parts, touches of melodica, and Microkorg.
They recorded their debut EP, Live Around Here Often? over the course of a weekend in 2007 and have leisurely shared it with friends and fans. Everyone describes their music differently, but most people agree that the leadoff track "Dance if You’re With Us" belongs on the radio. The band is prepping their forthcoming LP and planning a 2009 release.
These days, the band can be found at local venues such as The Hideout, Subterranean, The Whistler and Ronny’s, passing out cookies and killing it with sets that leave those in attendance wanting more.
Check out the anticipated EP on iTunes or Amazon MP3 and frequent their Myspace and Facebook pages for updates on where Tell Your Friends will be playing next. Also, please do the obvious…

Tell Your Friends Number One
A burned cube of toast litters the darkness with sludge chunks teetering with indecision as to whether to be the chemical flavor essence of hell or heaven that burns off a candy smog-coating luscious with luciferic fringe.

Tell Your Friends Number Two
Like a jumbled up basketball game, altho basketball's already a jumble, it seems like a solitary animal's leaping out at you terrified, but the jumbled game has business of its own as it covens over your head on its runway-agenda.
