In early 2000, Duncan Dakin and Gary Smith teamed up to develop some of Duncan’s songs and write new ones. The partnership worked well and they soon had recordings of a number of original songs. In August 2002, they gave themselves the name 'Tempting Fate' and started playing the venues around their local town of Rugby. They have played all over the midlands and for BBC Radio on several occasions. Their first album is available from the duo themselves, at any of their live events and online via their website.
They are currently writing new material and recording their second album ‘SINNER’ due for release in March 07.
Music has been a big part of both Duncan’s and Gary’s lives for most of their 30+ years and their influences are many and varied, from Duncan’s classical music upbringing, working through his grades on piano and violin, to Gary’s early antics with his electric guitar, playing along to Jimmy Hendrix or Led Zeppelin at full volume.
They have both now settled on the sound of the acoustic guitar and the structured, melodic qualities Duncan brings to the duo are complemented by Gary’s more experimental approach.
Most of the original material played is written by Duncan and arranged by the duo together. All the covers played are arranged for two acoustic guitars to bring out the quality of Duncan’s soulful country voice.
Duncan, it's only just dawned on me - YOU SHOULD SUE VANESSA CARLTON! 'A thousand miles' is quite possibly my favourite TF track, and she's gone and written something else with the same title! I am not impressed! You should take legal action!
