Living in America and Being Broke are my biggest influences but musically I would have to say....Shi Dog, The Abolitionists, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Big L, 2Pac, Nas, Early Em, Biggie Smalls, Jay Z, Anti Pop Consortium, Ann Arbor Music, Detroit Music, Michigan Music.....Period, Dilla, Slum Village, Madlib, Busta Rhymes, Guilty Simpson, Common, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Tribe, De La Soul, Redman, Early Ice Cube, Scarface, Slick Rick,Hiero, Dr Dre, Snoop, Eazy E, Too Short, and a million other cats.
Meaningful lyrics and complex cadences are the backbone of this Michigan native’s style. A lover of music and rhythm and a hater of the American system makes this emcee like the rest, but what makes him different is his vision of the industry and the political and societal awareness he expresses in his music. One word can be used to describe an artist with as much persistence and determination as this young lyricist: Tenacity
Tenacity’s recording career started at a young age. He spent most of his high school days writing rhymes and attending concerts in the Detroit area. The music was so influential that Tenacity had to be apart of it. In 2001 Tenacity and friends formed The Abolitionists crew // A group of individuals working together as solo artists with hopes of abolishing “psychological slavery” through music. Individual members have taken their message to stages across the United States, Europe, and Japan. Tenacity himself warming the stage for artists such as Jedi Mind Tricks, R.A The Rugged Man, Juice, and George Clinton.
In 2004 Tenacity released his debut album and 12" inch single “Blunt Raps” with fellow Abolitionist member S.A. “Blunt Raps” was recognized locally and won album of the year and single of the year from Detroit’s Underworld Radio Awards. From 2004 to 2007 Tenacity continued to perform in the Detroit area. During that time he also recorded, mixed, mastered, and arranged a number of releases for his self owned label Abolitionist Projects. Among these releases is the debut album “Replacements” from his group, Impossible Obstacle. The album features Guilty Simpson and Cysion the Slickest.
In 2007 Tenacity moved to Los Angeles to further pursue his recording career. Seeking international distribution and trying to get seen in the polluted seas of hip hop is his main objective. His debut solo album “Glitches” produced entirely by Spanish Producer Oznoh was released in November 2008 as a free download via myspace. Patiently waiting for his time to shine Tenacity stays working with producers from across the globe building his fan base on a daily basis. Spending time on his rhymes and keeping his mind on his grind. He is persistent. He is determined. He is Tenacity.
