Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar, the names behind Tenishia, are definately Malta's best electronic dance producers. Winners of 'Best Newcomer Award 2005' and 'Best Live Performance 2005' , Tenishia took Malta's clubbing scene by storm, they played in all the island's major clubs and events, including MTV Summerdance and rocked thousands of clubbers with their cutting edge DJ sets and live shows!!
Tenishia’s story started in summer 2004 when Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar joined forces for music production. Joven was already into djing for a couple of years while Cyprian had a perfect ear for good melodies due to his classical music background of playing the piano and other musical instruments from a very young age. They entered the maltese club scene officially on the 12th of March 2005, as Tenishia, with a Live PA which reached maximum limit of bookings around the maltese islands within few weeks for the best local events including MTV Malta. TV, radio stations, internet, magazines and newspapers featured their interviews and information which quickly gained a more popular name for Malta’s new artists. Loved by the crowd, the duo won the ‘2005 Best Newcomer Award’ just eight months after their debut and another award some months later as ‘ Malta’s Best Live Performance 2005’. Playing from one club to another round the Maltese islands, Tenishia played along side various big names, one of which was Kirsty Hawkshaw who showed big interest in the duo. The result of this was a big hit!! Kirsty Hawkshaw meets Tenishia - 'Outsiders', released on Armin van Buuren's very own label, Armada Records, which at the time had already released one of their tunes called 'Five' . 'Outsiders' definately was one of the biggest trance tunes of 2006/2007 which was supported by top names like Armin van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Pete Tong and Markus Schulz. The tune was chosen as 'one for the weekend' by UK's most in Demand DJ Dave Pearce on BBC Radio!! and made it to compilations like 'Ministry of Sound', 'Gatecrasher' and Armin Van Buuren's Year Mix 2006. The feedback for the tune was impressive and fans increased from all over the world!! Tenishia was now getting global attention!
With tunes signed to labels as Armada, Deepblue Records, Darey Products, Sola Recordings and Voodoovinyl, Tenishia surely has a lot to give, as the duo is now dealing with the top names in the field! Their mix was also featured on the Global DJ Broadcast, one of the world's most famous Trance radio shows on the planet, hosted by Markus Schulz.
The future shines bright for maltese duo Tenishia as they have already signed the follow up to 'Outsiders' to the legendery Armada Records called 'Reasons to Forgive' which seems that is going to be succesful as the previous track. While more big tunes are being produced, the duo is also working hand in hand with the new Jan Johnston & Kirsty Hawkshaw project called F-used which will see both singers together for the first time ever!!
Joven - Biography
Joven Grech entered the local music scene back in 1997 when he joined a small community radio at the age of 15. He started practising his mixing techniques when a friend of his started teaching him at a club, where soon he was spinning the wheels at. Seeing a great potentiality, the owner of the club moved him to a bigger club that he owned (Reeds) which was much bigger and at that time was very frequented by clubbers and by the young age of 17 years he became the main resident Dj of the club, spinning for hundreds every week, where he performed along side various big names including, Mike Push, Solar Stone, Rank-1, Johan Gielen, Gayle San, Dj Misjah and Pete Bruelle … After six years, he moved his residency to Malta’s only Superclub Tattingers for 1 year and started to play in various big events. 2004 was Joven..s greatest turning point when he joined his friend Cyprian Cassar for music production under the project Tensihia. …
Cyprian – Biography
Cyprian begun playing the piano at the age of 10, was highly educated in the art of music and he is able to play several musical instruments. But when he begun to frequent clubs something made him leave the classical piano, and that was the sound from his biggest inspirator, DJ Sasha. He says that Sasha made him change his love for piano symphony to progressive electronic dance. His love for progressive sounds grew bigger and bigger as he started to experiment with sounds on his computer and it was then when he decided to build his first studio. His biggest influences are Sasha, James Holden and Ozgur Can. Sharing his great musical talent with Joven made his dream of producing a progressive tune came into reality… and it was then, when Tenishia was born!!!
