Ten is a Japanese rock band, formed in 2005 in Tokyo.
Members are Atsushi Asano (Vocal & Bass), Yuki Asano (Koto/13-strings&17-strings).
Their music is made up of three instruments｛Koto（箏）, Bass, Drums｝
and vocals,
not only “featuring” the koto as a Japanese instrument but creating a
unique blend of sounds as a band.
The downtuned 5-string bass, makes up Ten's distinct rock sound.
As the amplified koto riffs and arpeggio play above.
The koto（箏） is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument.
This wooden instrument is about 180 cm long and has 13 strings
which are strung over 13 movable bridges along the length of the instrument.
Players use three finger picks (on the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger)
to pluck the strings,
and the pitches can be adjusted by moving these bridges before playing.
The 17-string koto (十七絃 jushichi-gen) was developed by koto master Michio
Miyagi(宮城道雄/1894-1956).
It's considerably larger than a normal koto.
It's one octave lower than the koto and it has a deeper sound.
The band's name “Ten” has a few different meanings in Japanese:
Heaven（天 / ten）; a point（点 / ten）; change（転 / ten）.
3 words are different in meaning but these are same pronunciation in Japanese.
In June 2009, the band relocated to NY.
