Through Terra Voce, cellist Andrew Gabbert and flutist Elizabeth Brightbill seek to explore their interest in musical expression from many different places and times, from early to new music and Celtic to tango, combining their voices to create their own distinct sound. They have delighted audiences with their virtuosity, diverse and innovative programming, and engaging, conversational style of presentation.
In addition to their numerous performances on college campuses, Terra Voce has appeared on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, in the Christ Chapel Chamber Series at New York City's Riverside Church, and as finalists in the National Flute Association's 2008 Chamber Music Competition in Kansas City. Together with four other flute and cello duos, Terra Voce has formed a commissioning circle devoted to supporting the creation of new works for this unique instrumental combination. Terra Voce is on the rosters for the Virginia Commission for the Arts Residency Program and Young Audiences of Virginia.
Elizabeth has been praised for her rich tone and versatility in intepreting contrasting musical styles. She held the position of Principal Flute with the Tulsa Philharmonic and Opera orchestras for ten years and has also performed with the Richmond Symphony, the Alabama Symphony, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Britt, Wintergreen, and OK Mozart Festival orchestras. As a chamber musician, she has performed in numerous concerts and educational presentations in Terra Voce and as a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet. Her solo performances include appearances at several National Flute Association conventions, including the “Generation X All-Stars” concert at the 2005 convention in San Diego and as a semi-finalist in the 1993 Young Artist Competition in Boston. A recipient of multiple awards, Elizabeth was named winner of the NFA's 2007 Dissertation Competition for her research on the flute music of Shulamit Ran. She was the 2nd Runner-up in the 2004 Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition and was awarded a graduate fellowship at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she earned the Doctor of Music degree. She has taught at a number of colleges across the country and currently teaches at Mary Baldwin College and Longwood University.
Andrew surprises audiences with the depth of sounds and textures that he coaxes out of his cello. Prior to the creation of Terra Voce, he held titled positions with the Tulsa Philharmonic and Opera orchestras for eleven years. He has also performed as soloist with the Tulsa Philharmonic and the National Repertory Orchestra, and has recorded on Centaur Records as the Principal Cellist of the Chorus Civitas Orchestra. He has previously been a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra and Terre Haute Symphony. Summer festival appearances have included the Wintergreen (VA), Britt (OR) and Sunriver (OR) Festivals, the Texas Festival-Institute at Round Top (TX), OK Mozart (OK) with the Solisti New York Orchestra, and Light Opera Oklahoma. As a chamber musician, he regularly presented educational concerts as a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic String Quartet/Quintet. He was a leading private instructor in the Tulsa area for over ten years and has taught as a Visiting Instructor at the University of Oklahoma, and as a graduate assistant at Louisiana State University. He currently teaches at Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA and maintains a private studio in Crozet, VA.
Their debut CD includes a range of musical styles from eighteenth-century Baroque to Brazilian choros and is available at CDBaby.
Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4
Good to have you as a friend! So great to see the internet in action this way, shortening distances between people.

Thanks so much for the Add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends!
We've just added two new blogs about Umano, plus four more new compositions, making ten on our space. We hope you and your friends visit us and enjoy our music, too.
We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
Although it's not an original thought, it also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
Beautiful playing. Thank you very much for adding me to your circle of friends.
I would like to invite you to listen to my CONCERTO FOR FLUTE AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA with Patrick Gallois on solo flute, and ARCTIC DREAMS 1 for flute, vibraphone and audio playback on with Lorna McGhee on flute on the attached flash audio player. There is also ANAKTORIA on the flash player, with Joaquin Valdepeñas on clarinet.
If you are interested in folk-music influenced works you might enjoy TELLURIC DANCES (an oboe concerto) on the MySpace audio player and MYSTICAL VISITATION and THIS IS MY BODY from my World Music piece MYSTICAL VISITATIONS and ON DEATH AND DYING from my multimedia music theatre work CONSTANTINOPLE.
Good morning Terra Voce, Thank you for the add. I like the originality of your music. Chabenat' s Crested Hens is a very nice musical trip. Long life in your music. Phil
