No matter how we can attempt to confine it to fit, nobody is an Island. Almost everybody and anything or unconsciously i deal with to since my childhood is an influence. The world in which we live is my greatest influence, life experiences, ups and downs. The Every days dust of life.. Terrence Ngassa, born in Bamenda Cameroon, is an emulated great example for the young generation of African musicians. (...) Renowned jazz musicians praise his musical versatility and his ability to convey his own musical ideas in a fascinating way. His passionate mixture of jazz and African music makes you feel that Ngassa is a jazz musician who is aware of his African roots. He convinces by his self-confident performance, his joy of playing, a personal sound full of warmth, mixed with a touch of African identity. Terrence Ngassa, a big deal for contemporary music which one should absolutely experience live. Discography: NGASALOGY VOL.1 & Ngassalogy Vol.2Sounds Like:
Ngassa Came as DAAD exchange student to Cologne to the university for music and i took the responsibility to teach him.. Today I would say i am lucky to have met him and grateful to have been his teacher because in the meantime, events have shown how far Terrence Ngassa musically gifted is, how versatile talented he is and how effectively he incorporates some of the knowledge acquired at the Conservatory in his musical conceptions. During his initial study he learned entire Miles Davis Choruses - by heart Miles, Kenny Dorham and Booker Little were then his most important points of orientation. But he did not only limit himself studying great Jazz heroes, but deliberately went back upon his African musical and cultural Heritage. I must add that he is truly comfortable in any jazz style he plays. Soon a Band was created, into which all experiences of his relatively recent past flowed. From the beginning it showed up that Terrence NGASSA is not only an excellent instrumentalist, but also a composer cutting his own path. And if his instrument is not sufficient to express his musical world, then he sings. And this in a convincing personal way, I would say, He knows what he sings and what he writes, then all the tunes and arrangements bear his signatures. Such a fruitful artist needs a proper band. It is a very special treat to listen and watch him perform with his band. He chose adequate members of his band from fellow colleagues from his study time at the Conservatory of music in Cologne with great expertise and diligence. Needless to say that Terrence Ngassa graduated from the conservatory with an excellent exam. I am absolutely sure that Terrence NGASSA and his crew still have a successful future ahead of them. This second installment of the Detour series invites the viewer to revisit the perceptual experiment conducted in Detour 1 only instead of presenting the images in a rapid succession, here they are slowly fragmented almost like a puzzle occasionally coming together to form complete images.
