About me:

Bass Clef Musician (Low Brass and Bass Guitar) and Social Pundit. I enjoy progressive rock, electronic, acoustic, contemporary/impressionist classical, and punk/new wave music (or any music done well, for that matter; most modern country and popular music is God-awfully nauseating and rap does not qualify as real music); hiking, biking, taking pictures, sunshine, nature, the Chicago Cubs, and a microbrew (or three, although I am currently on the Wagon). I grew up in South Dakota, and attended music school at South Dakota State University, studying under Dr. Darwin Walker, Dr. Paul Royer, Dr. Corliss Johnson, Dr. Perry Jones, Dr. Warren Hatfield, Prof. John Colson, Prof. Hratch Berberian, and a host of other fine teachers. I spent six years touring the world as an army musician; the obligatory six months at The School of Music in Norfolk VA, then in the 8th ID Band in Bad Kreuznach, Germany; the 1st ID Band in Ft. Riley near Manhattan, KS; the 81st Army Band at Ft. Sheridan in suburban Chicago, IL; and the 8th Army Band in Seoul, Korea. After that I spent 20 years in east-central Wisconsin playing music and raising my fine son Matt (please see his MySpace page in my Top Friends list). I am currently living in northwest Iowa, continuing to look for that pot of gold; although the countryside here is very pretty, it all smells like pig shit. Naw, I'm not really bitter about that; I just want more chances to play and catch some concerts. A few of you have asked if I write music. Simple answer - no. I seem to not have any original musical thoughts running through my brain. I don't really mind that, as the songs that I do have in my brain are all miracles of emotion, creation and expression, that I thank God that I am able to enjoy. My friends tell me I have my own music within me, and I just need to find it. Well, OK then; let's go! Anyway, I consider it my responsibility to spread the joy of intelligent, exciting and passionate music to whoever has the heart to enjoy it (to paraphrase Teddy Roosevelt). I thank you all for your incredible gifts of music, and wish you all the very best in your adventures.

Who I'd like to meet:

Ian Anderson, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Todd Rundgren, Pete Townshend, Tony Blair, Michael Moore, Burton Cummings, Steve Hackett, Matt Johnson, Elvis Costello, Andy Partridge, Peter Garrett, Trevor Horn, Paul Westerberg, Jesse Ventura, John Edwards, King Abdullah II and Queen Noor of Jordan, Joe Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Carter, Alan Parsons, Roger Chapman, Kerry Minnear, Mike Rutherford, Lou Reed, Steve Earle, Bob Walkenhorst and the Kilgore Rangerettes. Plus a special wish to see my old school and army band buddies again. Arrrr!
