R.I.P. MY BEAUTIFUL BROTHER BILLY HURLEY 8.17.54-3.20.82
MY GORGEOUS Brother Bill Hurley and my best friend was of modest stature but with a HUGE heart of gold and fantastic personality. He used to run sound for us in Solstice and would come up on stage and juggle apples and chawnk one all the way around til it was gone!!!
The crowd roared with laughter and delight. Bill also was a great harp player was born to be an entertainer always hamboning it up as he was a Leo and a friend to all.
Sadly, he was killed drinking and driving while I was at Toledo Hospital overnight at the end of my pregnancy for toxiemia. On March 20, 1982, after the bars closed he passed out at the wheel at the Central Ave. Exit heading towards downtown and ran into the cement abutment at the walk over bridge. As soon as I found out, my water burst and I went into labor, had Frankie by C-section and couldn't go to his funeral. The extraordinary part was that I had planned for 2 years to get pregnant so that I could have a baby on the Pisces/Aries cusp. God gave me everything I'd hoped for and more with Frankie who was born directly on that cusp March 21. However, an elderly musician friend told me they "God let them pass each other" and that truly made so much sense and gave me strength to endure.
So bitter sweet.

In the late 1980's I had the privilege of working with our area Vietnam Veterans Chapter 35 when the "Moving Wall" was brought to Toledo. I worked in the tent, locating names for rubbings, out of the 58,000+ that died in Vietnam. Many veterans and families came from all areas of the country. In the early evening, my then husband, Bobby May, who is a Vietnam Veteran, and I led the crowd in singing "Blowing in the Wind" and the "Star Spangled Banner" as a candlelight vigil was held. Many left memorabilia such as photos, flowers, wreaths and kool-aid packages (used for water during the conflict) at the bottom sections of the "Wall". This event was so bitter-sweet. Veterans who had never shed a tear in years, or ever...wept aloud. People lined up for us to show them to the spot where their loved one's name was located. The good news was if the name that a pal was searching for was not in the book...it meant they were still alive..or at least they did make it home. I have never witnessed such reverence and gratitude within our community. It truly was a longtime coming.
We must learn from the past and be steadfast in comforting and supporting our returning soldiers as they are even now fighting for their rights to earned benefits and proper medical process as they come back to their homeland.
God Bless our Soldiers, all, and those who have laid down life and limb for our Freedoms!

My stage name is "GEORGIA PEACH"....yes, vocalist/percussionist from Toledo's Beloved Georgia Peach Band, or sometimes known as "TERRIOKE"! I have been a vocalist since childhood, a DJ/Karaoke Jockey and a sound tech for 13 years, a promoter and booking agent for many, many years around NW Ohio. I've opened for The Outlaws, Mcuffey Lane, Mitch Ryder,and Dr. Hook to name a few.
After being in several well loved Toledo local bands, I tried Karaoke. As soon as I did, I was hooked. What better place for me to use my skills as a promoter and sound tech! I have coached many singers and watched them blossom and bloom throughout the years. My shows are the ones where serious, die-hard and the BEST vocalists come to. The shows are a venues where there is so much camaraderie , all positive and supportive. Even my singers who are just there to have fun come back for more because I've encouraged them, and treated them like all of the others. And when I leave and come home exhausted, I'm smiling and happy because I feel so blessed to have had this special connection with so many.

I have also DJ'd in and around Toledo at many NightClubs, our grandest Hotels for Corporation Christmas/NYE Parties, Country Club Events, Kids parties, Weddings in halls and backyards, Reunions...Beach Blanket Bingo parties..you name it! And am available to play any kind of music for your event!

I have an adult musician bass playing son, Frankie, who is now playing on weekends with "Chris Shutters Band" and through the week acoustically with his Dad. CHRIS SHUTTERS BAND has won the Black Swamp Blues National Competition 2007 and were Co-Winners of The Toledo Blade Battle Rock Division 2008 and most recently have won the title of TOLEDO IDOLS JAN. 2009!!!
They have opened to 50,000 for Ted Nugent, then Frijid Pink and Molly Hatchet 2008! Frankie has also opened for Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, The Allman Brothers and Charlie Daniels Band since 2000 when he was 18!!!
Frankie lives the same life style as his Momma and whom I am very close with. We are night owls! I am still like a fun-loving 35 year old and not even ready to act my age! I STILL am an "ORIGINAL HIPPIE CHICK" too!
I have studied vocals since I was a youngin' with my Daddy Bill Hurley firstly, who performed on local radio and was popular around Toledo in the 40's. He taught all five of us chilin's harmonies from the get from Barbershop to Musicals!
At Sylvania HS I was taught by the incomparable Louis F. and Betty Davis in the Acapella Choir, was chosen to go to State Competition with a Quartet singing all Bach and Beethoven pieces and won first place there in the late 60's.
In 1974, while living near Palm Beach FL, I studied with Diane Courtney who was a Big Band singer and who took Billy Holiday's place on the stages in NYC when she could not perform. In the late 70's I met and studied under Marion Richards who was in her eighties and at that time was in the "Womens Book of Who's Who" for her notable vocals and training knowledge. In the early 80's I also took vocal lessons from Helen Joseph who was traveling to NY to engage in training from a famous vocal instructor who was also teaching technique to Diana Carroll and Barbra Streisand.
And thereafter, for several years at the University of Toledo I took VOCALESE from the Legendary Jazz Vocalist, Lyricist and Song Writer, Jon Hendricks, where we performed in Ann Arbor at the "Bird of Paradise" and also performed "Scherezade" with lyrics written by Jon at a local historical church with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.

Now about who I am....
I have my own home and am secure in who I am. I love to dance fast, but slow only with the man whom I desire. I have many outside interests too and am creative in many ways. I will only be along side a peace-loving man.
I love to camp, and the only baggage needed is when I travel to Detroit,Cleveland, Chicago, Indiana for concerts. I am a major communicator, verbally and musically and am just and forthright. I cherish my family and friends. I live life for the moment and to the fullest and pray for miracles for all of us daily. Being a spiritual person is just one of my qualities. I am conscientious of living my life as a good person and try to prove it by my actions and words. I also love to walk through the metroparks and enjoy the fresh air and sounds. I have many more interests and goals to fulfill. Traveling, appreciating the scenery, exploring cities and small towns, having dinner, and enjoying local entertainment is like taking a heavenly vacation. I love the outdoors or just chilling at home, watching a movie with a glass of Merlot. I am a STILL a MAJOR ROCKER and BLUES LOVER just waiting for my REAL MAN to come along!!!
