TERRY BLACKWOOD's Interests
|
| Music | I've had twelve years of piano, vocal training all through high school and college, and do a lot of vocal arranging for the Imperials. I have also arranged and produced for many recording artists. | | Movies | I haven't been to a movie in years. I think most of Hollywood should have to go out and actually get a job and earn a wage to appreciate the general public who idolizes them in general. I find them arrogant, selfish, self-centered and spoiled. Not very good role models. That being said, I do like most of Mel Gibson's movies, especially The Patroit and Braveheart. They inspire me! | | Television | I don't watch much television. Don't have the time to waste on the senseless dribble of reality tv or sitcoms. I do like to watch tennis, golf, baseball, college football. | | Heroes | Jesus Christ, King of Kings, Lord of Lords and soon coming
King who is my Savior and my Lord. My father, Doyle Blackwood, who now rejoices around the throne of God in Heaven and will forever and ever. Eternity is a long time! My sweet Mother who was so quiet and yet supportive of everything I tried to do. As a shy, young naive singer/musician, she affirmed me every step of the way. She took me to piano lessons and later attended my concerts. In my mind, she was a saint and she is with her husband, my father, and her heavenly Father now and forever. |

Born in a singing family, the Blackwoods, singing is about all I've ever known. I joined the Imperials three months after graduation from U of Memphis and two years later we were backing Elvis in Las Vegas. We sang with him for three years. We were on the movie, "That's The Way It Is" and "Suspicious Minds", "Kentucky Rain", and all the hits of the early 70's. The Imperials were a pivotal group in contemporary Christian music. I was lead singer and vocal arranger for the group for nine years. We were nominated for Grammies several times and finally won in 1975 for No Shortage. We also sang with Elvis on his Grammy album, "He Touched Me". Later I joined with Sherman Andrus and we formed Andrus, Blackwood & Co and sang together for nine years. Both groups had a number of number one charting songs and it's ironic that Sherman and I are now back together. Along with Joe Moscheo who was with us in the Imperials, we have Gus Gaches on tenor. We tour all over the world now and sing our gospel songs to Elvis audiences and also to church audiences. No matter what venue, our music and the songs we sing are always the same. Our message rings loud and clear and it's what God has called me to do. I love to sing about Jesus and His love for all mankind and that's why I say "To Sing Is The Thing".
I am also active in producing and/or arranging for artists who are interested in recording. Let me know if that is of interest to you.
I also do a number of concerts in churches as a soloist and have my own web site at www.terryblackwood.com. Most of the cd's I have been involved with, including Andrus, Blackwood & Co, Friends IV, and A Blackwood Homecoming, Vol. One, along with solo cd's can be found on my web site. I have a wonderful wife, Tina, and three great children, Luke, 10, Jesse, 7, and Leah, 5. You can see them on my family photo section of the web site. You can sign up for email newsletters, or just write me. I would love to hear from you.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone whom I have met over the years and with whom I may have lost touch. There are so many who encouraged me through all the musical phases of my life and I would love to get reacquainted.
