Influences
Terry's influences are rooted in the classic sounds of Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, early Motown, Patti LaBelle, Hall & Oats, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benetar & Cyndi Lauper
Inspired by Maroon 5, Jars of Clay, Jason Mraz, Ryan Cabrerra, Madonna, Panic At The Disco, The Killers, Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone & Mary J. Blige
With a unique gritty rock and blue eyed soul vocal power and sound, Terry would be most likely be compared to Daryl Hall, Panic At The Disco,
Maroon 5, Elton John, Sting or John Cougar Mellencamp.
Terry Christopher is a hot, emerging singer/songwriter from New York City. He has been recognized with great reviews from around the globe and has won several recognitions and awards for his debut CD, Take Another Look.
After working in entertainment for many years touring the U.S., Europe, Canada and the Middle East, Terry has set his sights on his love of music and songwriting and has been called "a force to be reckoned with." NYC's Next Magazine says, "Terry Christopher's songs are unique....For starters, it's actually good. Journey of a Wordsmith is a showcase of Christopher's artistic growth".
Terry's sound is a fusion of Pop/Funk/Blues.
Terry is a singer/songwriter that is comfortable wrapping his lyrics and unique vocal power around many styles. In one song you may be feeling the bass heavy, drum kickin' efforts of a tribal club beat and then the next hearing a track that is kissed with a touch of the blues. Many reviews have noted such an approach as fearless, effortless and re-freshing from this blue eyed soul singer.
Terry was the recipient of Favorite Male Artist Award and Favorite Album of the Year Award from Stonewall Society in 2003!!! It would then be no surprise to say that Terry's debut album, Take Another Look, ranked 7th out of the TOP 40 albums promoted on Outvoice, a Top 40 monthly internet music program for the GLBT community voted on internationally. Even more incredible, is the fact that Take Another Look placed 8th out of the TOP 40 albums rated on Outvoice in 2005!
MTV and ASCAP have both awarded praise upon this emerging songwriter/vocalist. MTV licensed ALL 10 of Terry's debut songs for their program "MADE! ASCAP awarded Terry another songwriting grant to pursue the work he is doing right now in the studio on his much anticipated follow up disc.
Terry's influences are far and wide. They are rooted in the sounds of Marvin Gaye, the Beatles and early Motown to Hall & Oats, Elton John and Maroon 5.
It was noted in one review that "for once you can hear the influences listed by the artist in his music." "Catchy, groovy and a flair rarely seen in indie pop" are just a few snatches of descriptions written about Terry's music.

A portion of those same artists showcased this weekend at the 16th Original GLBT Expo will appear on April 6th at OutMusic's Open mic. Barnacle Bill & Lady Honey Clover will host OutMusic, which continues stronger than ever, being presented by The Center, NYC’s own cornerstone for the LGBT community.
In addition to newcomers and those long-serving, OutMusic invites three special guests in April: Lousia "Light" McBee, a classically trained jazz vocalist who fuses her influences with contemporary electronic. Vincent Digeronimo, an independent folk singer, with sturdy guitar and vocals displaying his lyric poetry. And our feature Virago, comprised of Amy Schindler and Maire Tashjian, two versant musicians making regional sounds.
With added appearances by Young Neat, Matt Gerber, poet Katina Douveas and other inspirational artists, whose work can be felt in the guts of all who behold it. Don’t miss your chance to show and tell your talent and be among companions.
As Pride events draw near, keep pace with OutMusic’s latest developments by visiting outmusic.com and join us the first Monday of every month at The Center for the open mic. $10 / $7 for members (admission includes drink ticket).
