This singer/songwriter has the style and sound reminiscent of the past, a voice with a core of grit and soul dipped in honey sweetness. Her artistry and style was built from the environment of her hometown: Detroit Michigan, otherwise known as Motown. The niece of a Baptist preacher, Terry began her musical journey singing in her uncle’s church. By her early teens this songbird was performing in the regionally known band Tri-Star as well as recording background for artists such as Simply Red.
She made her solo debut in 1999 with her critically acclaimed self-titled Warner Bros album that spanned two Billboard singles "Better Than Me" and "Strayed Away". She was then featured on the remix to Eric Benet's number one smash "Spend My Life With You" as well as singing a duet with recording artist Jaheim that appeared on his double platinum album "Ghetto Love". Terry has also appeared on numerous soundtracks such as "Rush Hour", "Bait ", "Deck The Halls" "Bring It On 2" and "Legally Blond" where she was featured along side the "Black Eye Peas;" front man WILL.I.AM who then went on to feature Terry on their underground jam "Lay Me Down" from his "Lost Change" album. Her big screen debut happened in 2003 in the movie "Deliver Us From Eva," where she played the role of Valerie adding to that a stirring performance of "Amazing Grace" in addition to working along side Raphael Saadiq on a feature song which appeared on the adjoining soundtrack. 2005 is what Terry describes as the "Year of the legends, The turn year" Her mentor Patti Labelle introduced her on the "Tonight Show" as they performed a rendition of"Ain't No Way". The same year Terry was invited to perform on the Hurricane Katrina record "Heart Of America" sharing singing duties with Wynona Judd and Michael McDonald and Eric Benet culminating into live appearances on the "Today Show" and the World Series game three. On the gospel tip Terry co-wrote a song featuring Patti Labelle, Mary Mary, and Kanye West featured on Patti Labelles new gospel album. On the Jazz tip she has worked and been featured on projects with George Duke and Paul Taylor.
Always the kind of artist to stretch the envelope, this budding Diva made her introduction to the electronic music world starting with the record "Better Than Me" in 2000 which landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Dance charts and featured two of electronic musics legends Roy Davis Jr. and Hex Hector. Again in 2003 Terry and Roy Davis Jr. would team up again on his critically acclaimed Ubiquity album "Chicago Forever" of which Terry was featured on three songs including the "Billboard" single and Winter Music Conference top ten "If You Wanna." Terry and Roy then went on to release another international release "Wonderin." In 2009 we will hear more from her partnership with Davis on their upcoming release "Paradise" from "God Life Music", as well as features on projects from Holland to the musical works with the Sybria production team, Kolonik.
In the acting realm once again in 2007, Terry acquired and played the lead role of Tyme Prentice along film star Morris Chestnut in the David E.Talbert directed stage play "Love In The Nick Of Tyme" which is soon to be released on DVD. This touring production played to mostly sold out crowds across America including performances at the legendary theatres "The Beacon" in New York City and "The Kodak" in Los Angeles. This experience soldified her title as ....Singer/Songwriter/Actor...
Sept 30th 2008 was a landmark time for Terry. She finally released her long awaited second album "Listen", to critical acclaim and is currently promoting it national and international. She also is featured on Eric Benets new album on the duet "Everlove" as well as having two songs which she co-wrote and performed featured in the 2009 Taraji P. Henson and Morris Chestnut movie "Not Easily Broken. Next for Terry will be the beginnings of her third album an extension or a part two of 2008's "Listen", as well as garnering more acting roles.
