About me:

I'm an internationally bestselling thriller writer and a doctor, with a fascination for all things weird and creepy. I'm the author of a forensic thriller series starring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles. These two brilliant women investigate some pretty frightening crimes, and their cases have involved serial killers (THE SURGEON), women buried alive (BODY DOUBLE), and even a corpse who wakes up in the morgue! (VANISH) My latest thriller, THE KEEPSAKE, is in bookstores now. Since I'm a doctor, I try to take my readers into the autopsy room, to see what I've seen, and to experience what it's like to hold the pathologist's knife.

So where did I get this scary imagination?

As a kid, I collected lizards and dissected snakes. My mom dragged me to every horror movie ever made, which is how I learned that the world can be a scary place. My mom also believed in the spirit world, and I grew up in a paranormal household, where many of our friends were psychics and spirt mediums. It wasn't unusual to have a dinner guest suddenly go into a trance over dessert and start channeling ghosts!

The result of this rather odd childhood is that I grew up a skeptic. Big-time. I studied science and anthropology and became a doctor.

But I've also been a storyteller, since a very young age. In 1990, I quit medicine, to write novels full-time.

My titles include:

Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles series:
THE SURGEON
THE APPRENTICE
THE SINNER
BODY DOUBLE
VANISH
THE MEPHISTO CLUB
THE KEEPSAKE

Medical thrillers:
HARVEST
LIFE SUPPORT
BLOODSTREAM
GRAVITY
THE BONE GARDEN

(I also used to write romantic suspense novels)

Hi Tess!  I hope that this comment finds you doing well!  I can't tell you how much your writing advise has helped me as I have been doing the things that you have told me and I am finding that they are working for me too!  I just finished reading a few James Patterson books and I am so anxious to start reading your book, "Vanish"!  This will be the4th book of your's that I will have read and I have enjoyed the other 3 and I intend to read all of your books!  You are truly an instiration!  I just noticed that you play fiddle and like Celtic music!  I am also a Fiddle player and really enjoy playing Celtic music!  I also play guitar, bass, mandolin, bouzouki, keyboards, drums and a few other instruments and enjoy a wide range of music!  I play a 1910 Geman handmade Hopf violin and it has such a terrific sound!  What kind is your's?

Tess, I've been rereading all my favorite authors and I'm on your books now.  I forgot how much I loved them!  Please write more with Maura and Jane - they are such fantastic characters!  I don't want these to end but I'm already on Mephisto Club!  Love your work (along with P Cornwell, J Sanford, L Child, R Crais, J Evanovich and J Patterson) - you are in an elite group!  Keep up the great work!!!!

    A true fan -

    Kitty

Thanks Josh, I used to write to Tess before she got an assistant..lol. Tell her not to spill her Ramen Noodles on her fuzzy slippers or, worse yet, use one of the noodles as a page marker in her copy of Lord of the Rings.

I cant help but read your books Tess, you are wild and quite mad. I guess growing up watching Horror movies with your Mom can do that. (Yea, that interviw with Art Bell replayed last month). It was even more fun the second time.

Love ya Tess and thanks for adding me.

Thanks for the add .. :) .. Thanks for all the hours of thrilling adventure as I turn each page of every book .. :) .. Thanks for scaring me half to death at times .. :p .. and most importantly of all, thank you so VERY much for the inspiration you passed along to Trish over the years .. she's following her dreams, in part, thanks to you. :)

(And now that I've rolled my tongue back into my mouth, it was truly a great honor to meet you recently. I'm not completely sure if actual words were formed as I tried to convey that to you on that snowy night in Massachusetts.)

Be safe, be well, and may you always find the greatest of success as you continue on your literary journey.
