Bio
This unconventional quartet was formed in 2005 by the encounter of two Portuguese and two Italians in The Netherlands, country where they moved to accomplish formal studies at the prestigious conservatories of Rotterdam and The Hague. United by the will to explore the universe of improvisation in the broadest way possible, the four members recorded in 2008 an album, And The Missing "R", published by well established portuguese label Clean Feed and reviewed by international magazines with big praises. The same year the quartet played as closing act of the annual Jazz.pt Festival in Lisbon, in a program made of big local and international names, consolidating a performing experience that included world famous Hot Clube of Lisbon, CCB (Centro Cultural de Belém) and venues of different countries of Europe. In 2010 they toured the USA, rocking the Clean Feed Fest in New York, and playing in Chicago with great cello improviser Fred Lonberg-Holm. For 2011 a coming back in the States is already in planning, this time extending the tour to Canada. ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -

Is this some Italian or Portuguese designation, considering that this project ensembles two Italian and two Portuguese young musicians? No, it isn't – it's an anagram coming from “De Patter Quartet”, being De Pater the name of the club in Haia, Holland, where Giovanni di Domenico, Daniele Martini, Gonçalo Almeida and João Lobo played together after attending their classes at the local conservatory. The venue, by the way, where the project Tetterapadequ was born and began to develop. But there's something wrong with the anagram: to be correct, it shoud have one more “r”, and that's why they titled the record as “And the Missing R”. Any misteries solved, what you'll find in the music itself isn't exactly the product of what's being teached nowadays in a European music school with jazz courses. At De Pater, the quartet found the ideal space to play freely and to explore possibilities, something not very well accepted in an academic environment. So, this is not your average and well behaved jazz combo. You can easily call it jazz, no doubt about it, because that's the musical language used here, but there's much more on it besides the rhythmic patterns and the harmonic constructions we imediatly identify as jazz. Giovanni, Daniele, Gonçalo and João prefer to call “confusionism” to the kind of structured improvisation or spontaneous composition they perform, and precisely because they're always surprising us with unexpected and even bizarre solutions. Good for them and good for us: truth is we have here a new, different and audacious proposal, with its quality level put very high. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- video from the concert in "Festa do Jazz do Teatro Sao Luiz" 2010, Lisbon - Portugal .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
