It isn’t often a spoken word poet like Texas Brash comes along; an artist whose passion and intensity is matched only by the desire to get his point across in the most articulate manner possible. It’s this perfect pairing that grabs and shakes you by the boots on Sugar Venom, the debut collection of poetry by the brash Texan who is sure to become the premiere spoken word expressionist of the 21st century.
‘I refer to my work as pure Texas BBQ Poetry’ says the man born Jay Hollier. ‘It’s all got it’s own flavors and emotions, and there’s enough for everyone to catch a pull from.’ Works like ‘5 Seconds’, ‘Take a Seat, Take a Stand’ and ‘Reckless Abundance’ showcase his penchant for articulating an aggressive stance towards apathy and bullying in all parts of today’s society, while works like ‘Clarity’, ‘Condiments’ and ‘Crossroads’ showcase his progression and ability to connect with everyone taking the time to listen. ‘The best part about my poetry is that I know people of all walks of life can listen and appreciate what is being written about – the poems transcend social status, race, color, religion, creed and all the things that we allow to separate us as a society and as a race. The bottom line is, if you’re a jackass I’m going to let you know and I would expect you to do the same.’
