The Texas Holistic Network encourages people to educate before you medicate ... and, to teach your children about self-reliancy (tough times are a'coming, my friends) view more
The Texas Holistic Network is literally a network of friends, and we promote "helping others learn to help themselves."
It is our belief we should all strive to heal ourselves naturally before resorting to the allopathic mindset which compromises the miraculous design and system of our bodies.
The Texas Holistic Network also advocates the healing of the mind … of starting within ourselves to begin the journey towards REAL health … of living simpler lifestyles … of sustainable building techniques ... of being better stewards with our money … of giving back/tithing (to churches or worthy causes) … and of re-learning to be more self-sufficient in this chaotic world.
We have provided an online forum for people of like-minds to participate in discussions of physical, emotional and spiritual issues in a comfortable environment.
Please visit us at http://www.texasholistic.info and help us build a strong online neighborhood.
The Texas Holistic Network will be organizing community organic gardens for young children on abandoned/vacant lots in towns across Texas.
THN Freedom Gardens hopes to revive the mentality behind the massive Victory Garden movement of World War II.
World War II united people, and allowed them to reach into the depths of themselves to pull up a resourcefulness they didn't know they had. The world was a violent and dramatic place (and it still is today; even more so) yet, also, an awakening within happened: a vision of unity and understanding.
During that time of horror and hope (which still applies; today) people realized they were living out a great saga in their lives. And, in that saga, they all had a part to play.
The WWII Victory Garden came to symbolize this unity and vision, and was clearly a victory on many levels.
THESE are the focused, patriotic feelings we want THN to tap into, and our Freedom Gardens will represent the community fight to regain control of our lives and our health ... for our children's future.
Today's commercially grown produce comes from soils depleted of the minerals and nutrients necessary to keep us healthy. Plants grown in depleted soils are less able to resist attack by pests ... so the use of pesticides is more prevalent than ever.
Today's big food corporations choose the cheapest, most effective pesticides ... not the ones that are least toxic to humans and other life forms.
Along with pesticide residues, our produce contains residual amounts of synthetic chemical fertilizers which are toxic to our livers.
Fruits and vegetables are on the road for 1500 miles, on average, before they reach the supermarkets. Produce is picked early, without having a chance to ripen, so it can withstand the long journey. During this transporting, even more of the nutrients are lost.
When it finally reaches the supermarket, the produce usually sits in storage for an additional week before being put out for sale.
Not only that, but our supermarket produce is grown from genetically engineered/modified seeds AND it undergoes radiation treatment to kill harmful organisms ... also killing good organisms ... making it devoid of flavor, and totally devoid of nutrition.
Your local farmers market is great in the sense that you have access to locally grown foods that does not go through the premature harvesting for the long journey ... nor the irradiation process ... but, the produce is still coming from genetically modified seed sources AND is still being treated with synthetic chemicals for fertilization and pest control.
THN GARDENS reaches out to the people who want FREEDOM from all of that.
Still, we strive take it to another level: nowadays, families are short on money to put gas into the SUV to drive their children around to their many activities. At the same time, parents are realizing their children are not really learning what is important in life. People are beginning to yearn for projects and activities that will bring their families closer together.
It's time for us as a community to reach inside ourselves again, and to rediscover that small kernel of old-fashioned relaxation and resourcefulness.
It is still there.
THN Freedom Gardens will be a manifestation of new thinking, new vision and an explosion of new understanding. We not only live in this world, but we help create it.
And our Freedom Gardens can offer the communities of Texas THE CHOICE to participate in a movement of unity and renewal.
We, THN, will be a new movement just beginning like the emergence of a tiny seedling in spring ... and Abilene is the headquarters.
We will appeal to those who have had enough of the old ways of thinking ... and THN will be there to help others take back control of their lives, their health, their resources, and their futures.
We will encourage an enthusiasm that characterizes new experiences, new survival techniques, new values, and new ways of living/thinking.
A garden is both a challenge and a source of immense hope ... and is beautifully symbolic of the growth process involved in creation, man's life, and our mission.
Our gardens will be an outward expression of a community filled with energy, enthusiasm and love for all life ... showing the power within us to create our world by the choices we make.
If the community of Abilene is able to achieve this FREEDOM, other communities across Texas will be invited to follow and this extraordinary movement will grow.
THN Freedom Gardens will be our outward symbol for the victory of the decision to be part of the new enlightenment, and it will provide communities with a way to re-establish a positive relationship with nature.
When we reach out to do this, we will break down barriers within people's minds, and their resistance to this new movement will dissolve.
Gardening represents so many things.
On the most basic level, gardening is about the relationship we have with plants: when we love and cherish them, guide and prune them, no matter the external conditions, they will return the favor.
Gardening also mirrors relationships with our children:
Children are like plants ... from conception to adulthood ... and a child who is loved and cherished and, yes, pruned, will thrive no matter what the external conditions are.
But a child who has no loving guidance, withers and dies.
We reap what we sow.
Gardening really isn't about the color of your thumb or location or soil condition or technique. It is about what is in your heart and spirit, and whether or not you have the freedom (and/or the wherewithal) to pursue it.
The Texas Holistic Network provides the wherewithal.
If you are interested in becoming a local garden volunteer, or an essential team leader, for your area ... please send us a private message OR contact "The Admin" at the above THN discussion forum.

"Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless." -- Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoi
