About me:

The Texas Music Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit working in conjunction with the Texas music industry and the State of Texas, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education.
The primary mission of TMP is to help strengthen and restore music education to Texas schools. Our objectives are to raise awareness of the benefits of music education and the related needs of schools; build capacity and funding for music education in local communities and schools; and enable more informed decision-making among decision makers at both the state and local levels.
TMP capitalizes on the popularity of Texas music, the generosity of the Texas music community, and Texas pride to more meaningfully engage the communities, companies and the media regarding music education.
TMP conducts the "Don't Mess with Texas Music" public awareness/education program which includes our exclusive series of CDs; distributes grants for music education to schools and communities in need; consults and plans with local communities to build longer-term programs to sustain music education in schools; and creates customized events and programs for companies interested in supporting music education while building their brands through Texas music marketing.
WHY TMP IS NEEDED :
Music education has deteriorated slowly over the last 30 years. Schools in states all across the country are now facing unprecedented budget cutbacks. Music and the arts are suffering disproportionately, as educators and legislators grapple with priorities - reading, writing, math, physical education, music and art. Unfortunately, music and the arts are often the first to be cut. Texas ranks near the bottom among the 56 U.S. states and territories in per capita spending ($0.18) on music and the arts. The national median is $1.44 per citizen. Declining support for the arts at both the federal and state levels has made it necessary to develop innovative solutions such as the Texas Music Project.
