Texas NORML Excited about our new meeting spot; Flamingo Cantina, Wed, Dec. 2nd, 8pm, with great music after the meeting! Check our events & blog for info Posted at 5:48 PM Nov 21 view more
Texas NORML's mission is to achieve the repeal of marijuana/cannabis prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty. The penalties surrounding cannabis are far more damaging to people, and society, than use of the substance. The “war on drugs”, specifically marijuana, has wasted BILLIONS of tax dollars imprisoning hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens, while destroying their lives and families; all for a plant that has never been shown to be the cause of a single death.
A nonprofit public-interest advocacy group, Texas NORML represents the interests of tens of millions of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly. We are dedicated to informing the public of the many uses of cannabis including medical, industrial, and recreational. And we will continue the fight to reform state and federal marijuana laws by better educating the public about marijuana and marijuana policy options.
Texas NORML has supported and/or worked in conjunction with other law reform organizations including the Colorado based organization, SAFER (Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation). In early 2006, Texas NORML worked in conjunction with SAFER to pass a student referendum (with 64% of the vote) at the University of Texas in Austin, which called for the equalization of the penalties for alcohol and marijuana.
We have regular Texas NORML meetings at the Flamingo Cantina, 515 E. 6th St, Austin, TX, the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00 PM. During meetings we discuss recent relevant news and upcoming events in Texas and nation-wide, and the meeting will be followed by Flamingo Cantina's "Good Vibes Wednesday" featuring roots/Reggae/DUB music. Hey whats up TN? my name is John A. Davila Jr. and i am recently being effected by the war on drugs. If you read the Austin American Statesman a few weeks back I was one of 6 that was indicted on conspiracy charges from bringing marijuana from California to here in the Heart of Texas. I never killed, i've never robbed, i've never scammed, i've never taunted the police...Now i'm looking at 5 to 40 yrs. in prison. All for the cause. I have so much to say but i wonder if the feds. look at my myspace...so I better keep the "respect". Do you think i'm a bad person? Non retorical..just curious.
