Texas Pop Festival's Blurbs |
About me:
Labor Day Weekend, 1969, two weeks after Woodstock, hundreds of thousands of hippies converged on the Dallas International Motor Speedway, in Lewisville, just north of Dallas, for a three day party. The festival featured Santana, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Chicago, B.B. King, Spirit, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, James Cotton, Freddie King, Grand Funk Railroad, Sam & Dave, Sly & the Family Stone, Rotary Connection, Incredible String Band, Sweetwater, Tony Joe White, Ten Years after, Nazz, Shiva's Headband, Space Opera, The Quarry, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends and Herbie Mann. The Hog Farm ran the campground and free stage, where Wavy Gravy got his name. There was no violence, but one died of heat and one baby was born. I'm wrinting a book about the festival, and run a website at www.texaspopfestival.com It's the only official website of the Texas Pop Festival.
