Buck Owens, Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, David Allen Coe, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Faron Young, Conway Twitty, The Derailers, BR549, and just too many to list. You get the point.
The Texecutioners are Portland Oregon's premiere honky tonk outfit. Influenced by country legends including the likes of Hank Williams and George Jones, They evoke a traditional sound hauntingly portraying the ragged outlaws of the past. Their ability to feel right at home in a dingy underground punk club or the stage of The Grand Ole Opry, undeniably makes The Texecutioners a versatile country and western band, attracting four generations of fans. From young to old, these boys have it all. The soul and compassion in their live shows can capture an audience of any kind, leaving them feeling connected to the group and their music.
Lead Vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist, Josh Lightnin' sings with a passion and soul unique to his own generation, but comparative to the 40's and 50's honky tonk era. Whether singing an original song or a cover, he delivers an unrelenting performance that creates an inspiring connection from the past to the audience. So don't be fooled by his punk rock exterior, this young man is 100% honky tonk.
Drummer, Christian “Lucky” Noreen, is the dynamic presence and the backbone of this rhythm section. Paying his dues by day with his sweat and blood, by night this high ballin' countrypolitan drinks hard and plays even harder. Either providing a slow waltz to drown your sorrows to, an upbeat boogie for a two step, or a runaway train shuffle, this ragged but right outlaw will bring an audience out of their seats and onto the dancefloor.
Steel Guitarist, Mitch “Tex” Gilbert, is a highly respected and accomplished Portland musician. This native Texan is a troubadour of the highest class. His work with The Texecutioners undoubtedly refines their sound, adding an element only a steel guitar could. With honky tonk and western swing flowing deep within his soul, Mitch is sure to make your eyes fill with tears and your heart break in two with his playing.
Upright Bassist, Andrew “Slam” Van Voorhees, is an up and coming young bullfiddler. Born and raised in rural central Oregon, he’s no stranger to the heartache and hardships that form the core of honky tonk. Whether he’s helping a slow dirge stay on its feet or taking the wheel for some swing number that’s had a few too many, his tasteful mix of traditional slap and pizzicato styles can keep any song moving.

TUESDAY 8/11/09: MARK TWAIN INDIANS, THE VALLEY ARENA, OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
“[SMART ROCK] Don’t let the riffage scare you. The Valley Arena’s new disc, We Died, finds the SoCal crew engaging in hard rock as smart as it is heavy: Tricky post-hardcore guitar licks are there to buoy cleverly jingoistic turns of phrase. Fans of bass-heavy ‘90s indie rock like Jawbox and Seaweed ought to dig the group’s smartly aggressive aesthetic, which grows in spurts with each release. And you thought nobody was making worthwhile rock ’n’ roll anymore. Psshh.” - CASEY JARMAN, The Willamette Week
