Edward "Edy" Askew McWilliams:
Native of Los Angeles,
CA, now residing in Brooklyn, NY. He stood out amongst
the many poets at the 2006 College Unions Poetry Slam
Invitational at Texas State University as a writer
from UC Santa Cruz focused on sharing truths and
possibilities that expand imagination and
understanding. He writes both poetry and plays such
including Peace Sister Bye Brother concerning
gender identity, prison and HIV in L.A. and Underground exploring the
politics of the fractioned stories of people that ride
the A train between Brooklyn and Manhattan. He has
performed spoken word poetry at college campuses
across the United States, and has performed for and
conducted workshops for High School students in
California and New York. Edward is also one of 16 artists chosen to participate in the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics' EMERGENYC program in 2008.
Daniel “Fritz” Hershel Silber-Baker:
Native of South Berkeley now living in Brooklyn, NY. In 2005 he
and his Santa Cruz team took first place at the National Collegiate
Championships in Westchester Pennsylvania. In 2006 at
Texas State University, he was voted “Best Poet”, at
the Collegiate National Championships. He is a part
of the Brave New Voices College Tour, chosen for his
ability to challenge apathy, excite college students and
disturb the general stagnated political climate. His
poetry is gripping and pulls at the heartstrings,
capturing intense moments of his life. He shares his poems with a sense of
urgency that calls for paying closer attention to the
things we glance over on a daily basis, and to take
action in re-humanizing our own lives and the world
around us.
