With the exception of a few successful artists, the Hip-Hop industry has been in the grips of a down cycle. No Hip-Hop artist, recently, has quite been able to deliver that breakthrough album that captivates the world and catapults them into the ranks of the elite emcees, such as 2Pac, Biggie, Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z, and the other emcees that are legendary icons of what we identify as the Hip-Hop culture. Very few artists nowadays possess the talent and knowledge to make music that is capable of being received by people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Tha 1ne found a love for music at the tender age of 11. Oftentimes when riding in the car his father would play 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube, Ice-T, just to name a few hip-hop pioneers that would resonate through the car speakers. Tha 1ne began writing lyrics at the age of 13, although he didn’t begin to write with a purpose until the age of 19, when he failed to make a college basketball team. It was then when he was searching for a sense of direction, a source of hope, that he truly realized his love for music and natural gift of writing heartfelt lyrics. Tha 1ne was inspired by the likes of hip-hop legends, ranging from Papoose and Lupe Fiasco to Nas, the late, great Big L and the late, great 2Pac. It was from these hip-hop icons that he learned to write music, that not only could make a listener nod along to the song or make the crowd go wild, but also could reach the hearts of those in need of a message; Those who listen to music to get through the day, whether it be to rejoice in times of happiness, uplift themselves in a time of sorrow, or simply just to enjoy the music. Tha 1ne is limitless in his ability to create a diverse range of music due to his very observant and analytical nature. Whether it’s speaking from experience or speaking from his observance of another’s experience, Tha 1ne can deliver heartfelt music that can touch the life of the listener. On another note, he is capable of making music for the nightclub frequents and party goers, as well as the alternative listeners. Tha 1ne has realized that in order to be a hip-hop legend, in order to be placed among the greats he must be able to be diverse, creative, and able to change with the rapid transformations of the music industry. Tha 1ne, refers to himself as The Upcoming King, because his rise and upcoming never ceases, even after he reaches the pinnacle. Also known as The Lyrical Dream – The Industry Nightmare, Tha 1ne draws from past legends to influence his ability to reign in the present and be the emcee of the future, all while making history in the process.
