At 1st i thought i knew who i sounded like exactly but now a days.....i dont even know who tha fuck this nigga sound like. sound like he 2 yrs. ahead of these muthafuckas.
Korbin Knowles AKA Tha Guvna was born in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1980's era. He grew up a observing child. The type to never ask questions. More like the type to figure out the way that will work to his advantage. "he would always think a couple steps ahead before he did anything but a child dont know nothing. Did a few stupid things growing up even though guv thought steps ahead. When he wasnt thinking too hard, he was listening to music. Even though he didnt know what tha song meant, growing up his favorite song of the 80's was Rick James "Mary Jane."
"Every child has a story to tell about either how they was a wild child or either born with a silver spoon in their mouth, etc. etc. etc. I was born with that greatness."
Guvna would always freestyle with Nickili, Gunsmoke, & Lil Rocka all tha time but he felt as if he shit was some top of the line...garbage.
"I dont see how tha fuck Hov do this shit. perfect music gotta be time consuming."
He got tired of playing back their freestyles and hating the shit he was hearing hiself say. Thats when he stopped explaining his teachings. He started writing bars but he didnt have a name that didnt satisfy hiself.
"Big Korbin is to plain. its already too many bigs and lil's for me already."
One night Guvna told hiself that he was gonna sit down and smoke weed tha whole weekend unless i came up with a name. When that night came...It took ten blunts before I came up with the coolest name in tha biz. "Tha Guvna" The name suited him better than any 3 piece suit. That night he wrote the chorus to the song "call me yo guvna" The next day he dropped his 1st time consuming track and it was a hit. Every other night, he was recording over a dynamic microphone thinking that its the best quality ever. As he was winding up, his 1st mixtape "Waking up from greatness" he stopped listening to the radio, CD's, his favorite songs. everything. The only thing he was listing to was Tha Guvna and how he could make him better. "I'll listen to what this blunt tell me to say" he would tell his friends. You just dont know how serious he took it. He started to train hiself to think "tha better tha weed, tha better tha flow" After training his brain to think that without a blunt, i cant rap. not listening to music nor videos. And focusing everything on Tha Guvna, you would think that he was serious. but the thing is...he was only doing it for fun.
"It was all fun & games. do i sound like im serious bout this rap shit. Hell I laughed through most of the cd cuz of tha funny shit I was saying. Something to keep me out of trouble. Something to do on my spare time. Any of those lines could describe how I felt about this rap shit."
But as he continued to do it for fun and jokes, he began to notice that alot of the new acts albums couldnt fuck with his 1st mixtape. The one he was doing for fun. So after bumpin "waking up from greatness" until he couldnt listen to it no more, he felt like it was time to have a lil more fun with Lil Tony & Gunsmoke.
As Guvna was working on the Top Flight mixtape, he noticed how every track was major label potential. Hell it had to be major label potential because we had the "Newtown" section of Blackhaven yelling Top Flight. Consistently snatching sonething out of Lil Tony's ride saying "I'ma bring it right back." So we got the Newtown on lock off some shit we was doing for fun...and it wasn't finished. The 3 finally decided to do a song for the ladies entitled "Come between us" After finishing that song, confidence was through the roof for the 3 because anybody that heard it would say "if that was on yall own beat...yall would be in hollywood." Consistently hearing similiar comments made Guvna write like he was russel crowe in the movie "A perfect mind" By the time it was finished, Tha Guvna was halfway done with his next project "Meat falling off tha bone"
"Thats how good this shit need to be. Raising the bar shouldnt even be in nobodys mind because im going way beyond that. Its crazy how I was one of the top 100 greatest rappers alive...and i aint been heard of yet..."
Upon completion he started to lose condifence due to the evironment he was surrounded in. Guv began recording less than he normally would. the same goes for writing. he wouldnt write as much as he would. He would shake it off and finish the mixtape.
"its like...the more shit that distracts me or tends to bring my confidence, the better my bars would be. And when i record again, it sound like the song should be on 106 & park or some shit."
He went right back to the basics with the more detailed bars had had stored away for the Waking up from greatness 2.1 & 2.2 Mix tapes.
"Got rid of all of the leftovers and now this time around...im gonna have yall muthafuckas slow to understand tha shit i say but still say that guvna nigga bumpin."
He began to treat these mix tapes as if they were children. and you know how a father is when somebody messes with their children. guv had that same mentality while perfecting his craft. He took everything to another level. He would even rap longer just to prove that he is getting better by the bar.
"The end of every track was damn near the best part of the greatness. i cant say i have a favorite track for this mix tape. all i can say is...my favorite part is the end of every track. that shit be bumpin."
As he began to work on Greatness 2.2, he noticed that his potential is damn near an A+ when it comes to this music shit. Potential so high that he began to see shit he was slow to understand in his mind. What he began to see was tha future.
"When i finished Greatness 2.2, that shit that was in guv's environment that was fucking with me way back when, began to take ite muthafucking toll again. Confidence down and shit and as I began to ask myself is this music shit for me...I began to understand that shit i was slow to unterstand...Tha future."
Now. Heres a question. if you heard any part of "Tha future on CD" do it sound like everybodysfuture guvna is all about fun and games like he was in tha Greatness 1/Top Flight Vol.1 era? hell you see Guvna.com dont it. Its time to show tha world what Guvna all about.
"Hell i been saying future all along and didnt notice it back in tha day. When i was on myspace promoting my music i was always saying everybodys future guvna. Now my words can speak more than a niggas actions. Since I know whats going on i ask how should Guv end this. Since I know whats going on I'll tell you this...I am Tha future so I am to be continued."
