Thais Anthony – Singer / Songwriter -- With Blues as her father and Gospel her mother, Thais Anthony’s music steeps over decades of soul, percolating a contemporary pop edge. Ranging from a falsetto sensuous whisper to belting growls of soul, her distinctive voice harmonizes elements of gospel, jazz, blues, and rock. Her funky background arrangements set the tone of her original music, marking a sound of her own.
Analogous to her musical influences such as Sarah Vaughan, Etta James, Whitney Houston, and The Clark Sisters, Thais’ first solos were sung from the pulpit of the church. Naming herself “Debra Thais” at 3 years old, Thais Anthony -“The Little girl with the big voice”- would move the congregation with hymns and spirituals. Without any formal training, by the age of 6 she captured audiences with ballads and standards.
The remnants of Thais’ early musical experience in church yet echo strong through her entertainment and recordings today as an independent pop and blues artist. Best known for her hit single “I Don’t Need You”, Thais Anthony’s growing popularity from her new singles “Drivin” and “Out Of My Mind” have also become favorites among her fans, creating a buzz from the web to the streets.
Amid completion of her pop music project, currently Thais Anthony stays on her grind and gets real grimy with a jazz and blues project in the works, collaborating with blues and jazz organist Greg Lewis and his organ trio.
