Band MembersI am both a solo artist and play with a core band "Thaneah & the 10 Feet of Hair" (Dre Fincham on bass and Annelin Messmer on drums). For my CD release event on February 4th, 2007, Kevin Kossowan (electric guitar, computer keyboard and back-up vocals) and Sima Shamsi (piano, computer keyboard and back-up vocals) joined us to "round out" the sound and make it sound more like the CD. Kevin Kossowan is also the brilliant engineer, producer and multi-instrumentalist behind "Kaleidoscope". He also co-wrote "Kaleidoscope Girl" and "Eleventh Hour" (and sang back-up vocals on the latter) and is aka "Novalee", one of my MySpace friends.
InfluencesSinead O'Connor was probably the only true "influence" but I loved Supertramp (maybe that's why I play 12 string?) and many other bands such as Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, etc., while growing up in the 70s and The Police and The Eurythmics in the early 80s. I listened to a lot of Jane Siberry in the late 80s (she's so unorthodox!) and there are many other artists, well known and not-so-well-known like Sarah MacLachlan, Martin Sexton, Jorane, Hawksley Workman and Dave Matthews whose vocals and creativity I dig that I'm sure have some influence at some level.
Sounds LikeSinead O'Connor, Sarah McLachlan, Delores O'Riordan (Cranberries), Tori Amos, Alanis Morrisette, Loreena McKennit.

______________________________________

As a singer-songwriter and guitar player, I am self-taught, although I was heavily involved in an excellent music program in John Rennie High School, in my home town of Montreal, Canada. I played flute, alto saxophone and sang in the choirs. Private piano lessons and corresponding exams at McGill University in Montreal during my high school years were also part of my musical training. Although I had fantasies of being a performing singer and songwriter as a teenager, the most I managed to write was two lines of lyrics! Because I was by nature very shy, to satiate my creative yearnings, I composed original piano pieces, occasionally performing them at piano recitals . After high school, music faded out of my life until many years later. In 1996, after reading "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron, I excavated my old high school dream and made a conscious decision to start writing, singing and playing my own music. Surprisingly, the songs came easily.

I was 33 years old, but my teenage naiveness was still there. After a year of writing and learning to sing and play guitar, I hit local open stages in Edmonton, Vancouver and Montreal, Canada. Listener response was enthusiastic and soon I was performing in cafes, clubs and small festivals. I had stars in my eyes, but it slowly dawned on me how little I knew about all the possibilities that were open to me in the music world and how to reach them. After about 5 years of performing at basically the same level, I decided to step back and take some time to learn more and decide which direction I would take. The desire to create visual art again also made its way back into my life at this time.

Over the past five years, I've written and performed in spurts, giving equal time to both my musical and artistic endeavors. Playing and singing for my own enjoyment has been constant since I began writing. Recording my music has also been a priority. Two EPs of my original songs were recorded over the years and I'm excited to have released my first full-length CD "KALEIDOSCOPE" in September of 2006.

Hi Thaneah,
I like the new picture. Beautiful songs as well. Nice to hear you with the full backing ensemble. Yeah, ice skating sounds good. Some people are talking abouts some very mellow hockey, but I'm quite fond of Hawrleck. Take care.

Good afternoon - just wondering what the topic of conversation with Mike Rivero was today. Very nice music as well. Enjoy the weekend!

Y'all must have more musical integrity in Canada, because I keep finding great music coming out of there. In the US it's all homogenized, regurgitated, mainstream garbage. I love your voice too. It is quite enchanting.

Hey Girl, awesome music, I am with you girl. I of all people understand love and of course, I don't understand pettiness. but it is a fact. Just dream girl, unleash.............your soul. It's something to be reckoned with. Maybe I can too. At least I hope I can. Peace.

Girl, your music is awesome, I keep listening to your songs, over and over again. I love What Really Happened and 11th Hour.

I had a thought today, we all have to keep the faith of the light and love above.

Peace,
K

Beautiful sound, Thaneah! I saw a link to your page on WhatReallyHappened.com.

Looks like we share an affinity for Julie Cameron, Montreal and the truth. Glad to meet you on this journey. Hopefully our paths will cross in person someday.

Peace,

Nadir
