Band MembersI once had an all-girl band "Thaneah & the 10 Feet of Hair" (Dre Fincham on bass and Annelin Messmer on drums). Before that, I had a band "Saint Thaneah and the Church of Sweet Cacophony" (Dre on bass and Keith Yasheyko on drums). I still play with Dre, who I have molded into the perfect bass player (and best friend) for me! We're sniffing around for a new drummer....
InfluencesDefinite influences vary from Sinead O'Connor, Wendy McNeill, Rihanna, Sarah MacLachlan, Martin Sexton, Jack Johnson, Hawksley Workman, Jorane. Other artists I like which may have influenced me unconsciously: Supertramp, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, The Eurythmics, Jane Siberry, Dave Matthews...hell, I'm just throwing out a few names here because I really can't think of all the artists I've loved over the years...way too many....!
Sounds LikeSinead O'Connor, Sarah McLachlan, Delores O'Riordan (Cranberries), Tori Amos, Alanis Morrisette, Loreena McKennit, Karena Pollwart, Effervesence (these are all other peoples' comparisons, but I'm not complaining!)

______________________________________

As a singer-songwriter and guitar player, I'm self-taught, although I played ukelele in elementary school, and piano, flute, alto saxophone and sang in choirs during high school in my hometown of Montréal. Music was forgotten once I started studying fine arts in college. I remembered it again when I started hanging out with hippies in the 90's playing hand-drums, singing, etc. in drum circles.

Those hippies triggered something, and a childhood dream of writing, singing and performing came back to haunt me after reading "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. After a year of writing and learning to sing and play guitar, I hit local open stages in Edmonton, Vancouver and Montreal, Canada. Listener response was enthusiastic and soon I was performing in cafes, clubs and small festivals. I was pretty excited but the resulting insomnia was killing me. So, I took a break to figure things and pursue other interests including creating fine art once again.

Since 2001, I've written and performed in spurts, solo and with a couple of bands. Playing and singing and writing for my own enjoyment has been constant. I've also recorded 2 EPs and my full-length CD "Kaleidoscope". Recently, I've been writing in French and a plan to record another full-length CD with songs in both languages is in the works.

Check out my stuff at www.backprint.com/imagesbymisskaren and let me know what you think.

I am using green screen technology and adding backgrounds to some of my photography.

Hi Thaneah,
I like the new picture. Beautiful songs as well. Nice to hear you with the full backing ensemble. Yeah, ice skating sounds good. Some people are talking abouts some very mellow hockey, but I'm quite fond of Hawrleck. Take care.

Y'all must have more musical integrity in Canada, because I keep finding great music coming out of there. In the US it's all homogenized, regurgitated, mainstream garbage. I love your voice too. It is quite enchanting.

Hey Girl, awesome music, I am with you girl. I of all people understand love and of course, I don't understand pettiness. but it is a fact. Just dream girl, unleash.............your soul. It's something to be reckoned with. Maybe I can too. At least I hope I can. Peace.

Girl, your music is awesome, I keep listening to your songs, over and over again. I love What Really Happened and 11th Hour.

I had a thought today, we all have to keep the faith of the light and love above.

Peace,
K
