About me: I was raised in Los Molinos and Redding CA. My dad divorced my mom when I was very young and he left his classic rock collection (and a killer stereo) behind and so I got into classic rock music in my childhood (when it was not classic). After moving to Redding and getting MTV (when it actually played music videos) I saw Judas Priest’s “You Got Another Thing Coming” I had a new love: HEAVY METAL! I knew I wanted to play guitar, but after spending all of my college savings on a guitar and lessons I knew that was not my instrument. In the mid-80’s MTV introduced the Heavy Metal Half Hour, which evolved into Head Bangers Ball. They premiered Motley Crue’s “Looks That Kill” video and I was amazed by Tommy Lee’s performance behind the drums. He was back behind the kit performing just as much as the rest of the band. From then on I knew I wanted to be a drummer. I bought a pair of drumsticks and the fist thing I learned was how to twirl them like Tommy and soon mastered the art. Around that time my mom was dating a person by the name of Nolan and we became good friends and remained so after they broke up. He became a surrogate father to my brother and I. In 1987 he made me a deal: if I took lessons from a professional teacher he would buy me a drum kit for my birthday. I started lessons later that year with Dave “Crash” Glasgow at Herried Music in Redding. After about 6 lessons Dave skipped town because his estranged wife was trying to track him down for back alimony payments. Before Dave split he left me with some good advice: “don’t lock yourself into one kind of music, the more diversity you learn the better you will become.” I continued on without a teacher and started jamming with my friends Rhett (HorusRe) and Ramsey and we formed my first band Vengeance Rising. I also started jamming with a bunch of other musicians with different stiles and influences. A blues guitar player I jammed with named Ken got me into playing at The Shasta Blues Society and he got me on stage for my first official performance at The Saloon in Redding (I found out later that Crash was in attendance that night and saw me play, he gave me kudos, that as very cool.) Soon after I stared jamming with Bill (Willy Mammoth) and Tim and we became Natures Order. Then after some changes we became The Migraines, then Pop Destruction. These were my main bands that I learned the most in and recorded with. I was also in Black Autumn at the same time as P.D. Other bands of note I was in: Comatoast, Riff Raff (my first AC/DC tribute band), In The Grave, and I was also fortunate enough to hook up with Phil Scoma, guitar player for Chocolate Watchband, a famous underground classic psychedelic punk band from the 60’s (Albeit a short relationship). Now I play for High Voltage and I am having a great time. So that’s me in a nutshell, I hope to see you on the highway!!! Stay Metal!!!!!
