Welcome to the "Official" myspace of Shookz! Below is some history about me...
Shookz formerly known as Paul F first got hit by the music bug at the age of 13 in 1997 when i first got a pair of cheap decks. From their i started buying records, making mixtapes, buying equipment, putting on local parties, going to as many clubs etc as i possibly could, generally getting into to music. I worked hard doing mixtapes and eventually got my first proper gig just before i left school at the age of 16 for Time Nightclub at Derby, which turned into a residency!
At this time i worked every Saturday at Meadow Studios in Ripley, Derbys. This was a good learning point, seeing what people do in a recording studio and it opened my eyes to the whole production thing. In 2000 i went on to do a couple of music technology courses in Nottingham to help learn more about the production side of things, while networking with new people from the Robin Hood Country. While at college i won a DJ competition for Nottingham's 7/11fm and got to play at the infamous Marcus Garvey Centre which was a big thing at the time! The same year as that i got his first ever radio slot on a Birmingham based internet radio station called BPM Radio in 2001.
Later down the line i started toying with an idea about setting up a internet radio station, i did my research which took a year to achieve but was worth it in the end... KindaFunky Radio was born in a basement of Paul F towers in 2003! From that came improving the radio, putting on nights with long time friend DJ Lawson called Synkronize Liquid & Elevate in my home town of Derby, regularly doing live broadcasts from various club nights & record shops including Weekend Breaks, Blend, Synkronize Liquid, Oh My Gosh Records, 5HQ & more...
In 2004 Paul F moved the radio to its first proper studio which was half studio half record shop (Collision Records), that was the beginning of Paul F's self employed time but sadly Collision Records closed late 2005... Paul F won "Best Radio Personality 2005" at the KindaFunky Radio Awards in Nottingham October 2005 which was a good boost to know that all the effort with the radio was acknowledged (and no it wasn't fixed)!
I did a project called Bangerang Dubz with Iziah which started early 2006. In April 2007 we had our tune "Shineye Sound" requested to go on the 1xtra D&B Downloads by Bailey! This was a great boost for our co-lab together. We had tunes on 1xtra with support from Crissy Criss, Bailey, Flight, L Double & Huw Stevens... After many good tunes & gigs we went our separate ways in Jan 2008...
In January 2008 i decided to create tunes under the alias of Shookz, so that i could keep on with my production which had taken over completely!!! A few months further down the line i hooked up on the tunes with my really good friend Sir DJ Devize which is going from strength to strength!!! Watch this space!
I got my first Shookz Radio 1 play with my tune "You" in March 2008 which was a major boost to the life of Shookz. Then in April 2008, Well Whatever Nevermind also got a Radio 1 air play on BBC Introducing. May 2008 saw Shadowz by Devize & Shookz feat Long John get a a couple of Radio 1 plays! Also on Radio 1 Huw Stevens dropped Emotional Silence by myself & Devize along with "battering" my first ever release which came out on the US digital label Sicko Dubz, the tune called Request Denied. It was a truly great year!!!
At the KindaFunky Radio Awards 2008, myself & Maestro's Tribute Show to our gone but never forgotten friend Craig Houghton got voted best radio show of 2008 which im very proud of... Big ups to the voters and to our fallen solider!!!
Now in 2009 im still doing my thing... Working on making music mainly with some DJing, Promoting & over seeing the running of www.kindafunkyradio.com!
Shookz tunes are getting DJ support on various radio shows, in clubs and hopefully i'll get a few more signed! If you've played / brought / supported any then, nice one and KEEP IT LOCKED...
