About the Show
That '70s Cast

Too cool for the Wisconsin suburbs where he lives under the authority of his parents -- RED and KITTY FORMAN -- 18-year-old ERIC FORMAN yearns for his independence and desperately tries to avoid his mean, yet somewhat promiscuous older sister, LAURIE FORMAN at all costs. But rites of passage aren’t all that easy at a time when jumpsuits and platforms are the epitome of cool. Just ask Eric's girlfriend and next door neighbor, tomboy DONNA PINCIOTTI, a knock-out who lives with her quirky, yet sometimes embarrassing parents, BOB and MIDGE PINCIOTTI.

Eric gets by with a little help from his friends, who spend most of their time hanging out in the Forman basement and pondering their lives, their parents and their future. The gang includes MICHAEL KELSO or more commonly known as just Kelso, a good-looking but gullible guy, especially when it comes to dealing with his controlling on-again, off-again girlfriend JACKIE BURKHART; STEVEN HYDE who is also more commonly known as just Hyde, a conspiracy theorist who thinks Xerox will take over the world and who is friends with the burn out hippy, LEO CHINGKWAKE; and FEZ, a foreign exchange student who’s soaking up American culture like a sponge.

Set in the era of Led Zeppelin 8-tracks, Tab colas and Farrah Fawcett posters, THAT '70s SHOW dazzled audiences for 8 fun filled seasons. The nostalgic series came from celebrated producers Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner ("Roseanne," "The Cosby Show") and wildly inventive creators Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner ("3rd Rock from the Sun," "Wayne's World," "Tommy Boy," "The Brady Bunch Movie"), with fellow "3rd Rock" producer Mark Brazill. Put on your platforms and gather 'round the groove tube, people. It's time to party like it's the 1970's!

Eric Forman
(Topher Grace)

Eric Forman

About: While generally a nice guy, he’s still a bit of a weakling and a coward. He is also very bad at sports and afraid of spiders. He admits to having no courage, and the gang makes several jokes to him as being a girl, Jackie in particular called him "a really masculine girl." Eric is also plagued by zits and klutziness, but there have been rare instances where he actually stands up for himself, actually beating up bullies who insult his friends and family. His father Red proudly calls this the “Forman Rage”. He is a little bit of smart-ass or as his mother, Kitty, calls him a "porky mouth." His smart-mouth often gets on his fathers nerves, which has earned him and the rest of his friends the title of "dumbass"

Donna Pinciotti
(Laura Prepon)

Donna Pinciotti

About: She’s the longtime on-again, off-again girlfriend of Eric Forman, and is his opposite in numerous ways. Donna is athletic, smart, and a confident feminist. While she’s normally easygoing, she also has an occasional tendency for self-righteous arrogance, and has uncomfortable issues with her own femininity. Donna is known for her red hair and is often times called "Big Red" or "Big D." When she changed her hair from red to blonde the guys started calling her "Jugs-a-popping" which they use to call her when her body started to change in fifth grade. She’s taller than the other girls and dislikes wearing makeup or skirts, preferring jeans instead, which has earned her the nicknames “Amazon” and “giant” from her friend Jackie.

Steven Hyde
(Danny Masterson)

Steven Hyde

About: An abrasive, anti-authority rocker with a taste for conspiracy theories and marijuana, or his "stash," he's considered Eric Forman's best friend and adopted brother, though he tends to criticize Eric quite a bit. Steven was taken in by the Formans when his mother abandoned him, and he actually shows gratitude and a softer side towards them. It's also hinted that he is one of the smarter kids in the group and could actually do well in school and personal relationships, but he simply claims that it's not worth his time and effort.

Michael Kelso
(Ashton Kutcher)

Michael Kelso

About: A handsome and long-haired pretty-boy, most of the time he’s shown to be the moronic idiot of the group with a fondness for sex. However, he’s also surprised his friends several times – such as when he scored the highest on the SATs and showed off rapid skill with math, though beer and money was involved in the latter. Kelso’s other interests include playing Atari, smoking marijuana, Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Robots, and watching Christmas cartoons. He frequently gets punched in the arm by Hyde, which usually leads to a fight between him and Hyde which then leads to Kelso getting hurt in the eye. Kelso eventually decides to become a cop for the Point Place Police Department when he realizes that his looks are eventually going to fade, but the uniform will keep him sexy forever.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Burkhart
(Mila Kunis)

Jacqueline "Jackie" Burkhart

About: An extremely haughty, rich and spoiled valley girl, she has a tendency to give advice that sounds stupid, but actually turns out right in certain ways. The gang only tolerates her at first since she’s Michael Kelso’s girlfriend, though she slowly fits in eventually. Jackie declares herself Donna’s best friend and experiences a number of changes herself, such as being forced to get a job and going through a series of love troubles with Kelso and then with Steven Hyde. She also likes to read Nancy Drew mysteries. Since she's the shortest member of the group, she often times gets made fun of for her height and and is often called "midget." Jackie's dream is to become a model, or an actress, or even a host of a T.V. show, preferably her own.

Fez
(Wilmer Valderrama)

Fez

About: His friends consider his real name unpronounceable, so they dubbed him Fez, short for Foreign Exchange Student, although it ends with a letter z to reflect how it is pronounced. His real name and his country of origin are running gags throughout the show, with neither of them ever being revealed and always getting drowned out by some random background noise each time he mentions them. He speaks with a weird accent, and claims to have Latin pride, Swiss frugality, and Jamaican fire (which turned out to be the brand of his cologne). He considered to be the unluckiest guy of the group because he has a hard time picking up women. He gets really nervous and can't talk straight and usually says something inappropriate which usually drives the women away from him.

Reginald "Red" Forman
(Kurtwood Smith)

Reginald "Red" Forman

About: The father of Eric Forman and a World War II veteran, Red enlisted in the Navy and likes to boast about “driving a gunboat around Okinawa.” He treats his son Eric harshly for being a soft and skinny wimp, favoring his older daughter Laurie instead and often calling Eric and his friends “dumbasses.” Red likes to threaten that he’ll literally kick someone’s ass, especially those who offend him. Red also has a talent for turning anything into "Foot-in-ass" remark or joke. Later on, though, it’s shown that he genuinely cares about Eric and just wants to toughen him up and prepare him for the world. While he generally has bad attitude toward everyone he meets and doesn't have many friends, he loves his wife Kitty more then anything and often shows his softer side toward her more then anyone else in his family.

Katherine "Kitty" Forman
(Debra Jo Rupp)

Katherine "Kitty" Forman

About: The mother of Eric Forman and a nurse with a distinct laugh and a fondness for square dancing, she tends to be overprotective towards her son Eric and enjoys motherly activities, such as baking cookies and looking after children. Kitty fears that if Eric moves out she’ll have no one to take care of, and convinced her husband Red to take in the orphaned Steven Hyde. Despite her cheery demeanor, Kitty is an intensive smoker and some-what of an alcoholic, with mood swings that she blames on menopause. Although Kitty enjoys doing her day-to-day activities around the house, every once and a while Kitty likes a night out on the town.

Laurie Forman
(Lisa Robin Kelly)

Laurie Forman

About: Laurie is Eric's mean and promiscuous older sister. She constantly drops or flunks out of college and she once slept with her psychology professor (and still couldn't pass the college course). Hyde and Laurie constantly bicker at each other and it often gets on Red and Kitty's nerves. She was even married to Fez to keep him in the country because she was "bored" and it gave Red a heart attack. Even though she is a daddy's girl and can often fool Red, Kitty can see right through her and very often spoils Laurie's plans. Kitty also forgets about Laurie and one time said to Donna, "Your like the daughter I never had" with Red replying "but, you already have a daughter" and Kitty's response was "a better daughter!"

Bob Pinciotti
(Don Stark)

Bob Pinciotti

About: The father of tomboy Donna Pinciotti, he’s not particularly bright and is easily influenced by fads such as hair perms and polyester suits, which constantly embarrasses Donna. Bob even laughs off grumpy neighbor Red Forman’s insults, thinking that he’s just kidding all the time. His passions include his banjo, irritating Red with his happy dimness, and having sex just about anywhere with his wife Midge, even to the point of horrifying Donna. He and Midge eventually divorced, though Bob still tried to retain the same cheery outlook. Similar to how Red was in the Navy, Bob served with the United States National Guard.

Midge Pinciotti
(Tanya Roberts)

Midge Pinciotti

About: Married to Bob Pinciotti and the mother of Donna, she was the neighborhood mom that the boys often fantasized about having sex with. She’s dim-witted like her husband, and enjoys having sex with him in random places. At one point, however, she starts feeling discontent with being just as housewife, leading to a number of arguments with Bob and passionate make-up sex after. However, they eventually divorce and Midge moves to California, where she says she can “pursue a career on Broadway.”

Leonard "Leo" Chingkwake
(Tommy Chong)

Leonard "Leo" Chingkwake

About: Leo is the pot smoking hippie who is really good friends with Hyde. He worked and owned a place called the Foto Hut, which he eventually forgot about thus putting the Foto Hut out of buisness. Apparently Leo was in the Navy around the same Red was in the Navy while fighting World War II and his plans after he got out were to go to medical school. He once had a crush on Kitty and even tried, in his words, "woo" her. It is also assumed that Leo once had family, but his wife and son left him, which is why he considers Hyde to be the son he never had. While not the brightest bulb on the tree, Leo means well and is a fun loving guy who will do anything for anybody (thats if he remembers).

Donna, Eric's neighbor, is also a friend, but she'll soon become something more, while Kelso already has a girlfriend, the bossy Jackie--and a crush on Eric's sister Laurie. Donna's includes mother Midge and perm-sporting father Bob.

So crank up the 8-track and flash back to the "me" decade and get ready to disco as we sit back an watch That '70s Show!

Season 2 DVD Cover

Summary: As That '70s Show's second season begins, Eric's buddy Hyde and college dropout-sister Laurie are still living with the Formans, but a few things have changed. Red is about to lose his job, due to layoffs at the plant. Otherwise, all the first season characters and their favorite hangouts, like Eric's basement and the Vista Cruiser, are back. Granted, Red accidentally sells the car during season opener "Garage Sale," but it isn't gone for long (blame Hyde's "special" brownies).

By the end of the year, Eric and Donna will have taken their relationship to the next level, Jackie and Kelso will have broken up, and Red will have gotten a job at the Pricemart--where he supervises Eric. The second season will end with a cliffhanger when Hyde is arrested (for something he didn’t actually do).

So climb into the Vista Cruiser for another trip back to the groovy '70s with the show that proves flashbacks can be more fun than a plateful of Hyde's "special brownies!"

Season 3
(2000-2001)

Season 3 DVD Cover

Summary: Keep reeling in the years with the third season of Fox's teen comedy That '70s Show. As usual, this season's adventures for Eric Foreman and his friends in the wilds of suburban Wisconsin circa the mid-'70s are broadly humorous (often to the point of slapstick), but the performances are genuinely warm and honest, especially between Eric and girlfriend Donna and Eric and his parents.

Episodes in season 3 center around the complicated relationships within Eric's gang--Eric and Donna attempt to resist the urge to take their romance to a physical level, while Kelso, Jackie, and Hyde find themselves in an unlikely romantic triangle.

Fez spoils Kelso's attempts to get back together with Jackie; and Fez's disastrous relationship with the possibly deranged Caroline.

Season 4
(2001-2002)

Season 4 DVD Cover

Summary: For Eric, Kelso, Jackie, Hyde, Donna and Fez, a group of high school teens who spend most of their time hanging out in Eric’s basement, life in the ’70s isn’t always so groovy. But between trying to figure out the meaning of life, avoiding their parents, and dealing with out-of-control hormones, they’ve learned one thing for sure: they’ll always get by with a little help from their friends.

The dominating plotline for season 4 is the aftermath of Eric and Donna's dissolved relationship, which is handled in typically amusing fashion in the first three episodes, especially the season premiere, "It's a Wonderful Life," which borrows the plot of the classic Christmas film to show a depressed Eric how his life would have turned out had he never pursued Donna. Elsewhere, Donna's dad Bob must adjust to a newly single life after Midge leaves him to go to California pursue her career as a star on Broadway; Leo falls for Kitty after an accident; Fez dates Big Rhonda; Kelso and Jackie continue to torment each other in their on-again, off-again romance; and Donna begins dating Kelso's older brother Casey, which generates considerable drama amongst all the characters.

In short, it's the usual laughs and love drama in Point Place, Wisconsin, delivered in the show's usual broad comic strokes, and with enthusiasm by the seasoned cast.

This is a show about high school, relationships, parents, pot (can't forget the pot), and life in the '70s!

Season 5
(2002-2003)

Season 5 DVD Cover

Summary: After the somewhat dramatic conclusion of the fourth season, which saw Donna and Kelso head to California, the fifth season opens on a cheerier note, with Donna and Eric reuniting after the latter also travels West to declare his affections. Their dramatic progress of their relationship forms the crux of season 5, but if that sounds too heavy for you, don't worry--there are plenty of wacky situations on hand involving Fez, Hyde, and the rest of the retro gang.

The Eric/Donna story arc moves quickly from a promise ring to an unplanned engagement and the discovery of said union by Eric's parents, Red and Kitty, which results in considerable rancor in the Foreman household. Eventually, marriage appears to be the destination for Eric and Donna, but first, there's graduation to deal with, not to mention Hyde's blossoming affection for Jackie, an apparent pregnancy for Kitty, and Fez's romance with DMV employee Nina, which goes tragically awry (and lead to a major season-ending disaster for him).

More fun, love, trouble, and 360º degree circles await in this groovy season of That '70s Show!

Season 6
(2003-2004)

Season 6 DVD Cover

Summary: A serious season of That '70s Show? Perhaps that's a stretch in terms of describing the sixth season, but more than a few moments of gravitas slipped into the slapstick adventures of Eric Forman and his pals.

That's not to say that laughs weren't the order of the day; on the contrary, there are plenty of funny episodes throughout season six, thanks mainly to Kelso, who finds himself a new dad via new girl Brooke and a police cadet; and Fez, who marries Eric's sister Laurie to avoid deportation. But there's the issue of Red's overtaxed heart, and wife Kitty's feelings of neglect; Hyde and the true identity of his father; and biggest of all, the romance of series sweethearts Eric and Donna, who decide to take their relationship to the next level by getting engaged.

Lava lamps and disco balls never get old when your livin' in the '70s!

Season 7
(2004-2005)

Season 7 DVD Cover

Summary: That '70s Show season 7 continues to bring the laughs as Hyde meets his biological father and sister; Red ends his financial worries by opening a muffler shop; and Fez moves in with Kelso to provide a "safe" home for his baby.

Old faces make return engagements as well, including Midge Pinciotti, Kelso's brother Casey, who coaches Eric through a remedial gym course, and Leo, who offers to help Kelso with his daughter. There's also a new member of the gang, a new hair color for Donna, and plenty of fun guest stars.

And if the show's loose and bawdy charm seems to have dimmed a bit in these episodes, the comfortable interplay between the cast members still feels the banter of real friends and family, which remains the key to the show's long-running appeal.

Who I'd like to meet:
Groovy Fun Facts

- Of all the Fox sitcoms that appeared during the 98-99 season, this was the only survivor.

- Mila Kunis (Jackie) was only 14 when she auditioned for the show. Everyone who auditioned had to be at least 17 years old. When producers asked her age, she misled them by saying, "Well, I'll be 17" and neglected to say when.

- Mila Kunis (Jackie) has two different eye colors: one blue, one green. Laura Prepon (Donna), called her a husky, since she has two different eye colors.

- Danny Masterson's (Hyde) younger brother, Christopher Masterson, was on a few episodes of That '70s Show as Todd the cheese guy who kissed Jackie.

- Laura Prepon (Donna) and Christopher Masterson (Danny Masterson's younger brother) began dating after he was on That '70s Show. They started dating in 2000 and moved in together in 2001. The pair unfortunately split in late 2007.

- An early idea during the show's development phase had Eric and Hyde fighting a bitter rivalry over Donna, but the idea was tossed out as the show and its characters developed.

- After the cast finished filming the pilot episode, they had a standing ovation from the studio audience. For a pilot and unknown actors and a new series, a standing ovation on a new series is rare.

- In the first season in episode "Eric's Burger Job" we meet Donna's little sister, Tina Pinciotti, but will never hear or see of her again. In a Halloween episode the narrator actually says "what happened to Donna's little sister?"

- In the first episode of the first season, Donna's mom Midge mentions something about how a book of poetry got her through a tough time when "Valerie" left for college. Whoever this "Valerie" character is, we can assume that this is Donna's older sister, but like Donna's little sister, Tina, we never hear of her again. Interestingly enough we actually get to see what Tina looks like, as with Valerie she never makes an appearance other then being mentioned in the first episode and then never heard of again.

- Point Place, Wisconsin is fictional suburb made up by the writers of the show.

- In the first season in episode "Grandma's Dead" we meet Red's brother, Marty Forman, but, like Donna's little sister Tina, we never hear or see of him again throughout the rest of the series.

- Lisa Robin Kelly, who played Laurie Forman when the show debuted, abruptly vanished following the second season and was cut from the opening credits half-way through season 3. Her agent released a statement saying, "Lisa has had problems, but she has been healthy for 2 years. It was a mutual decision for her to leave." She returned back to the show for one episode at the beginning of the fifth season and appeared in a few episodes toward the end of the fifth season, only to disappear again at the beginning of the sixth season. She filmed the first few episodes of the sixth season, but her scenes were never aired, since Christina Moore was brought in to replace her. To keep consistency in the sixth season, Kelly's scenes were re-taped with Moore replacing her character for the entire sixth season. Her character then disappeared for good after the end of the sixth season due to negative response of Moore. Other then being mentioned a couple of times, Laurie's character, physically, never comes back for the rest of the series.

- The fifth season episode titles are all Led Zeppelin song titles, the sixth season are all The Who songs, the seventh season are all Rolling Stones songs and the 8th season's titles are all Queen songs.

- The show was initially titled "Teenage Wasteland" and later "The Kids Are Alright." The names did not catch. Noticing that audience members, in focus groups, would say, "I like that show about the '70s", or "I like that '70s show" it was eventually decided to simply call the series "That '70s Show."

- Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, and Wilmer Valderrama are all best friends.

- Topher Grace and Laura Prepon are best friends.

- The rock group poster often seen on the wall in Eric's Basement is of Paul McCartney & Wings.

- Chuck Norris was the initial choice for Red Foreman, but was still filming Walker, Texas Ranger, so Kurtwood Smith was cast instead.

- Topher Grace (Eric) was off the show after the 7th season and did not comeback for the 8th and final season. He did come back for a small part in the last episode of the series. He left the show to work on Spider-Man 3. According to the "E! True Hollywood Story: That '70s Show," it was rumored that the cast was a little bitter toward Topher, since he was the central character on the show, but this was never confirmed.

- 'Josh Meyers' was originally hired to take on over the role of Eric Foreman, who had been played for seven seasons by Topher Grace. A now long-haired Eric would have returned unexpectedly from Africa "a changed man", thus explaining his different appearance. This idea was nixed when the producers decided it might offend Grace's fans. So, a new role, that of "Randy" was created for Meyers, who was already contracted for the 8th season. Though due to negative response, his character storyline was quickly minimized.

- When Donna and Randy started dating in the 8th season, it is reported that thats when fans stopped watching the show, and as a result ratings started to drop (though they were dropping at the start of the season). Fans were upset with the new character Randy and were upset that Eric had broken up with Donna and that Donna had and started dating Randy. Many fans were not expecting Donna and Eric to officially break up.

- Season 8 is the shortest season out of the 8 seasons, only being 22 episodes.

- The cars are:
--Eric's: 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.
--Red and Kitty's: 1976 Toyota Corolla.
--Hyde's 1967 Chevy El Camino.
--Kelso has had three cars on the series, so far. A Dodge van, and a Volkswagen Samba Bus, both mid-'60s models. He currently (2005) seen driving an MG convertible.
--Bob and Midge's 1970 Cadillac El Dorado (1998-2001)

- Tanya Roberts (Midge) unfortunately left the show after the end of the third season so she could focus on taking care of her husband who was suffering from encephalitis. He unfortunately past away June of 2006. She then later returned for 1 episode in season 6 and 4 episodes in season 7, only just to leave again. It is explained by Midge's daughter, Donna, that her parents figured out "they were better apart then together." Other then being a mentioned a couple of times throught the last year of the show, Miss Roberts character, Midge, doesn't return for the rest of the series.

- Red and Kitty also had a motorcycle and 1959 Corvette.

- In the "Water Tower" episode (1.21), Donna mocks Jackie for believing that Kelso could be a model. This is how Ashton Kutcher was discovered and asked to audition for the role of Kelso.

- Fez reveals his first name once and we don't hear it because of a sound. He is actually saying all the actor's first names.

- Red is a veteran of both WWII and Korea.

- At the beginning of the series, Debra Jo Rupp (Kitty) used her real hair for the Mrs. Forman hair cut, but after a while her hair started to fry. Her hairstylist then decided that so she wear a wig for the rest of the series.

- Kitty's real name is Katherine, but is referred to most of the time on the show as Kitty Forman.

- Red's real name is Reginald, but, like Kitty, is referred to most of the time on the show as Red Forman.

- The name Fez was suppose to be an acronym for Foreign Exchange Student (although it ends with a letter z to reflect how it is pronounced).

- In the second season, we find out that Jackie's middle name is Beulah. But in the first season we see Jackie wearing a shirt with her initials of JSB on it.

- When Jackie gets a job at the cheese house, there is a reference made to Sophie's Choice (1982). The movie did not come out until 1982 and the book was not published until '79.

- In "The Water Tower", when Eric and his family are eating dinner, and he starts imagining Red and Kitty naked, you can see that Kitty is wearing a tube top, and is not actually naked.

- Whenever Eric's last name is shown on a transition in the beginning of a show, his last name is Spelled "Forman". In episode 7-10, on the calendars Red has printed for his muffler shop, Forman is spelled "Foreman".

- In the episode, Grandma's Dead, when the grandma died on Eric's shoulder while taking her home, you can see her blink.

- In one of the episodes, Eric has a Spider-man pillow cover. But the image is that of the newer Spider-man series (Fox Kids series) and not the Spider-man cartoon series in the '60s and '70s.

- In one of the Christmas episodes, when it snows, the snow doesn't fall on the cast at all. And it appears it snow in one spot, less in the other spots.

- Several times in the series when donuts are present, they are in a Krispy Kreme box, but Krispy Kreme donuts did not come to Wisconsin until the 2000's.

- The poster showing world flags in Eric's room has some flags of countries that didn't exist in the 70s (e.g. Estonia and Georgia).

- In the opening scene of the premiere episode, the boys are looking at a Playboy centerfold, circa 1976. However, the magazine is perfect bound, not saddle stitched (stapled) as Playboys were at that time.

- Tommy Chong (Leo) was absent from the show while serving a 9-month jail sentence for selling "drug paraphernalia" (water pipes or bongs). He expressed surprise later that this wasn't written into the show's storyline. He then appeared numerous times on the show as a guest star, but then re-joined the show again in it's 8th and final season to help replace Topher Grace and Ashton Kuther, since they had both left the show.

- Ashton Kutcher (Kelso) left after the 7th season and guest starred on 4 episodes of the 8th season. He left to work on his movie The Guardian, but does return for the series finale.

- Laura Prepon (Donna) had to dye her naturally red hair blonde for the 2006 film Karla, in which she played the title role. As a result her character Donna Pinciotti changed hair colors for the show's final two seasons.

- In many scenes, Mila Kunis (Jackie) had to wear platform heels or sit down just to appear in the same frame as Laura Prepon (Donna) due to the height difference.

- Even though the show lasted for eight Years in real life, storyline wise, the time line only went from 1976 to 1980.

- Some may notice that on the DVD covers, seasons 1-6 all have characters on the side of the box art. For some reason the last 2 seasons don't have any characters on them. Mila Kunis' character Jackie was not featured on any of the sides of the box art.

- Actor Bret Harris, who plays Charlie Richardson, the son of a fellow war vet that Red knew, was suppose to be a new character to help replace Eric's character in the 8th season. But, Mr. Harris was offered a lead role on new television series called "The Loop" right before the 8th season of production started (the show "The Loop" has since been canceled). Since Mr. Harris took the job for the lead role, he guest starred on the first episode of the 8th and final season to help explain what happened to his character. It is explained, and shown, that his character had fallen off of the water tower and died and as a result, the water tower was renamed "The Charlie Richardson Memorial Water Tower."
