About me:
Harpers bar -located on a faultline that goes straight to Beelzebubs' womb- is one of those (possibly) misguided ventures into ideas. A bar designed as a creative space firstly, and a trough doling oblivion (for cash money) only as a secondary directive. (That said we serve all flavours of oblivion, even specialist cocktails).
Harpers Bar is a venue: Since the vestigal tail snapped off and apotheosis came about we have been lucky enough to host: Sketchie (lumenesence records), Mr Cooper/Mummy Fortunas Theatre Company (Lexoleum), Four Tet (Domino), Caribou, (Leaf), The Russian Futurists, Bakini, Leon nine, MumRa (Sony) and John Renbourne (various), Rashamon, Adem (Domino), DJ Food (Ninja Tune), Lianne Carrol, HighLife (Nana Tsiboe), and the finest (which is a universal here thanks to their talent) local acts. (Bear in mind we are only a cosy 220 capacity, over two floors)
Harpers Bar is a Bar: Which has a basement with guitars hanging on the wall, if so inclined patrons can take one (or a few if with friends) and play the night away. (We at the White Visitation have been informed that this is the only bar in the whole of the UK to have such a thing.
Harpers Bar is soon to have food: Yup, third floor action. Some of you experienced an under-furnished third floor acting as a VIP room on New Years eve, well plans are that it become an eaterie, one that you shall crave.
Harpers Bar serves cocktails: We even have shakers.
Harpers Bar wants you: Anybody involved in the creative displines (however unconventional) are welcome to suggest ideas for the spaces, nooks and lacuneau littered aroun the building- that includes, talks, workshops, screenings, book launches, gallery space, private functions, modern dance, self emolation, hey whatever floats ones' proverbial boat.
Harpers Bar has blue walls: Some of which need to be filled by art. We run an exhibition space, which allows local artists to display and sell their work. No commision, the only criteria is that it meets the specifications of our house curator "the cheif".
