12tone is an old term that has been appropriated to describe a new genre of music emerging out of London right now. It is a fusion of jazz, classical, “world music”, afro-beat, rock and other modern dance music’s such as Drum ‘n’ Bass, Funk and Dub. It is the 21st century evolution of 2-tone. 2-tone was an expression of unity between white and black people at a time when Jamaican music was hugely influencing the music scene. 12tone has the same message of social unity. It reflects the multi-cultural melting-pot of London.
12tone is also a social enterprise set up by a collective of young live musicians from London. We are using our music as a vehicle to promote positive social change, and ecological awareness. All our profits are going towards building a self-sufficient, carbon neutral housing co-operative in London.
