The 29th Of February is a collection of sounds from various genres, taking cues from progressive rock, alternative, experimental, indie, and more. A difficult project to categorize, its sound is flanked by epic harmonies and arrangements driven by a rhythmically and harmonically diverse backdrop.
The 29th Of February began in 2004 as an outlet for the rock stylings of multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Matt Nischan with a duo of songs. By the end of 2007, almost 3 hours of music had been recorded and performed solely by Nischan in preparation for The 29th Of February's upcoming album, Countdown To The End. Some of these demo tracks have been released as an online only, 4 song EP titled Only Time Now, as well as being available on the group's Myspace page.
In early 2008, the solo project finally became a cohesive group with the addition of a live musical lineup. Nischan, a drummer foremost, endeavored to find a drummer who could not only meet but exceed the demands of the arrangements, and these qualities were found in friend Brad Dickert. Lifelong friend Matt Nelson would join to perform the critical keyboard parts, as would accomplished Chicago bassist Graham Czach. Rounding out the lineup would be lead guitarist Nick Boettcher.
The 29th Of February is currently playing locally to support its upcoming album, Countdown To The End, due for release in early summer '08.
