About me: Hiya!
Most call me Karrie, some call me The KPA. I'm passionate about faith, music, friends & family. I love life and investing my gifts in the lives of others in whatever way God directs. I love learning new things and growing even when it is uncomfortable - even when the answers are unclear at first. I adore my husband, Patrick, who is an excellent friend, supporter, lover, jokester and overall compassionate man. We live together in Alaska.
The new job was good for me this year. As the Music & Arts Program Coordinator, I accomplished a lot of firsts, thanks to the inspiration of some amazing musical teens at Ptarmigan Hall. Because we have many youth interested in music but not necessarily involved regularly in it, I sought out the styles they enjoy playing and created venues for them to perform. So we rehearsed for months and put on The Headbangers' Ball and later, our first outdoor show, Rockzilla. I learned a lot about the metal genre this year from the teens I worked with and we had a rewarding time throughout the process.
I also designed the hall's first film festival. The Anchorage International Film Festival sponsored us so that we could show independent films legally. That night was fun and I hope to expand it for next year. I also ran the annual Visual Arts Festival, Northern Echoes Creative Writing Week and RIFF@N*HOOK Music Festival... all successes! I'm so proud of the teens I work with - they are creative, beautiful people willing to try new things in the realm of the arts. In addition, we put on the Variety Show during The Alaska Rural Energy Conference, which featured native dance, rock, solos, instrumental groups. Spring was very busy!
Though I didn't reach my personal writing or performance goals this year, I did dabble in them. I had the pleasure of accompanying co-worker Patti Crow in a couple jazz songs - my first jazz piano accompanying. I performed a concert with award-winning country/western guitarist legend Dennis Agajanian. In February, I performed with Bobby Lewis & Eustace Johnson of NYC at the Black History Celebration Concert in Fairbanks. I wrote one song utilizing jazz concepts I learned last year at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival.
Speaking of the FSAF, I get to attend again this year, thanks to a generous person paying for my tuition. I'm really looking forward to the classes and to seeing my musical colleagues again. Should prove to be a busy summer, since I don't go to FSAF until after some time with teens at Young Life Camp in Michigan. I will miss Patrick and Sabbath during the entire month of July!

Who I'd like to meet: I love meeting and getting to know people from all walks of life, though there are some specific people that'd be really great to meet. Most people who know me understand why I'd love to meet:
Steven Tyler Bono C. S. Lewis
Peculiar grouping, you say? C.S. Lewis' works really challenge me intellectually, philosophically and creatively (The Space Trilogy, The Great Divorce, etc) - so it will be cool to chat with him in heaven.
As to Steven Tyler, I identify strongly with his passion for music and life. I'd LOVE to sit in on a session with him & perform with him one day.
Regarding meeting Bono, another passionate human being - I'd love to hang out with him at an Irish pub and talk about God & love and about helping people in the world. And it would be AMAZING to sing with him.
