About me: I have always been nuts about music. As a child I was pretty much sheltered from rock and roll and pop music in general as I was raised in a fairly conservative, fundamentalist household. Don't worry I've long since reformed. Once I learned to read my family would take weekly trips to the public library. While records that my friends would bring over or records that I begged for at garage sales or whatever were unacceptable, for some reason records at the library were considered okay. It was there, while perusing the "safe" LPs that I discovered the Johnny Cash Live at Folsom record, several installments of the Elvis discography as well as various other rock and roll and new wave gems. When I got to be around 8 or 9 years old or so my parents figured out that they couldn't shelter me from the world forever and I was able to use my allowance money to buy records. I bought Out of Our Heads and Got Live if you Want It by the Stones. I even got Stevie Wonder's Innervisions LP for my birthday around then. In any case I got bitten by the Record-Geek bug and I've never recovered. I'd like to believe that this is where the seeds were sown for what would be the fruit of my life in music.
I began broadcasting the Chickenshack on WMSE in Late July 1997. At the time I was touring fairly heavily with the Exotics and we were often billed with Rockabilly, roots rock, honky tonk and swing and jump bands. I really wanted a forum where I could help some of these great groups get wider recoginition. I also wanted to present vintage country and other historic American music forms. The premise of the show has always been the same. From time to time I change up the presentation. Of course I'm always trying to hone my engineering and voice skills as well, but I've yet to get past that "community radio feel".
Over the years I've had the privelege of interviewing people like Wanda Jackson, Dale Watson, Robbie Fulks, John Langford, Sally Timms, James Intveld, Phil Lee, Joy Lynn White, Terry Allen, Michael Fracasso, Robyn Hitchcock, Jimmy LaFave and a whole bunch of other bands, artists, film makers and more.
Who I'd like to meet: Fans of "American Music". Bands, Musicians, Songwriters, Sweet Babes and Friendly Bartenders.
