Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Clash, Ramones, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex, Adverts, Damned, Joy Division, New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Blancemange, Yazoo, Boy's Own, Japan, Fad Gadget, Throbbing Gristle, Positive Noise, T-Rex, Sweet, Slade, Gary Glitter, Suzi Quatro, Eek-A-Mouse, Yellowman, Mickey General, Pinchers, Shelly Thunder, Gene Vincent, Ronnie Dawson, Hi Fi & the Roadburners, Rockin' Billy and the Wild Coyotes and Gil Scott-Heron.
In the summer of 1977 I bought my first three 45s, they were "Something Better Change" / "Straighten Out" by the Stranglers, "Pretty Vacant" by the Sex Pistols and "Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman. I wasn't quite 13 years old yet and I had already found the musical promised land! Some of the concerts that I saw in the UK back in the day include the Clash, the Stranglers, the Damned, Bauhaus, Fad Gadget, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Captain Sensible, We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It, Eddie and the Hot Rods, the Flowerpot Men (not the 60s band), Boy's Own, Yazoo, Blancmange, Positive Noise, Depeche Mode, U2.
Somewhere around 1981 or so, I joined up with the crew of the pirate radio station "South London Radio" as a DJ, which broadcast on Saturday evenings on 92.5 FM. My on-air radio name was "Rob Andrews". Drop me a line if you used to listen to SLR around that time. Other DJs at that time included John Dawson, Nigel Grant (RIP), Marc Mason and Bill Myers.
In the summer of 1988 I left the UK and headed across the ocean to Chicago where I've been ever since. My concert going didn't stop over here either, I managed to take in shows by the likes of Bauhaus, the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Creatures, Sisters of Mercy, the Mission, Chris and Cosey (from Throbbing Gristle), the Vibrators, UK Subs, Stray Cats, Gary Numan, Lene Lovich, David Sylvian & Robert Fripp, Billy Connolly, Material Issue, Smashing Pumpkins, the Damned, the Cure.
I quickly got involved with the local music scene here. I started off by managing an alternative band called Danny Says and then moved onto manage a rockabilly band called The Moondogs. Thru working with the Moondogs, I got heavily involved with the local rockabilly scene where I organized many cool shows, featuring acts like Ronnie Dawson, Johnny Carroll, Hayden Thompson, Billy Lee Riley, the Big Six, the Frantic Flattops, etc. My website from this era is Rockabilly Central.
I dropped out of the music scene as 1999 drew to a close. In 2000 I started the JP1 group, which is an internet group for people who are hacking their universal remote controls. My website for this is hifi-remote.com.
I now have two wonderful kids, both boys. Sean is 11 and Casey is 8.
Beautiful Books
Check out my wife Lisa playing with our neighbor Robbie Fulks. They're doing a re-make of Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" called "Beautiful Books". That's Casey bopping around in the front.
Who I'd like to meet: Siouxsie Sioux, Suzi Quatro, Barack Obama (wait, I've already met him).
Hello and Thank you for your friend and support of PUSH Peace Movement!
We are not
a political group, this is a social change movement and we are glad to
have your friendship. This is the hottest Movement on myspace and we
call this the peoples place for first amendment for change. Freedom of
creativity in art (writing)and photography is a fantastic way to
express ourself. Our framers were especially interested in seeing that
these freedoms were for all. Our United Nations can be impacted by us
to make Universal changes for World peace if the U.S. Constitution is
honored here and abroad.
I look very forward in chatting soon with you.
Sincerly,
Sonya McIntyre-Handy, U.S. Federal Precedent Law Writer
A friend had an idea that I thought might be very effective. We live in SC, a state where it does no good to write to our Congressmen (in our experience, they ignore anything from Democrats--they do not represent us since we did not vote for them). But if all of the people who live in states like this were to write to Harry Reid, and tell him that if he does the right thing and puts the Public Option into the Health Care Reform Bill, we will contribute $50 (or $25 or whatever we can afford) to his campaign.....and if he doesn't, we will contribute to his competitor's campaign (the point being, if he's going to act like a Republican what's the difference?). There must be close to a million Progressive Democrats in Red States with no one to write to and support on the Public Option, Harry Reid will listen to 50 or even 25 million dollars. What do you think? Please pass this on if you like the idea :) Also we want to get rid of the anti-trust exemption on insurance companies!
