About me:

The Soapbox is a free music night held every at 9pm on Mondays in The Front Bar of Stiff Kitten Belfast

The decks are open to everyone. No experience needed, just make a few CDs of your favourite tunes and we'll show you the rest. It's easy-peasy!

Oxjam Musical Amnesty
Who: 30 minute sets from local DJs or Band Representative: Space Dimension Controller (Shine/Belsonic) Paul Hamill (ATL Dance Show) Donna Legge (ATL) Timmy Stewart (Shine/Stiff Kitten) Panicdots.com Kim Barclay (AU/Gigantic) Not Squares Strait Laces Nakatomi Towers
What: This one-off Musical Amnesty Soapbox is part of the Oxjam Music Festival which aims to raise money for and awareness of the well respected aid and development charity 'Oxfam'.
Costs a mere £4 and not only will 100% of your door tax go to Oxfam, but we want you to bring down all your old CDs and Vinyl so we can sell them on to new loving owners at a stall on the night, and pass the remaining donations onto the Oxfam stores locally to be sold on to help the charity even further!
All this carried out to a soundtrack of sets from the above names in the local music scene!
When: Wednesday 21st October, 9pm-2am, £4
Where: Stiff Kitten Club
Why: Because not only will you be doing your bit for a leading charity, but you benefit from a great night of diverse DJs and music!
In a nutshell- Bring your old music down, we'll take it off your hands so you can have a great night for a great cause!
"Oxfam Ireland is a registered charity (no NI33800/CHY5988) and a member of Oxfam International”
“Oxfam is committed to ending poverty and suffering in developing countries. We promote understanding of the causes of these injustices, and campaign for a world where every man, woman, and child can live free from hunger, poverty, and oppression.”

Hi The Soapbox

Firstly, thanks for having us a friend! We really do appreciate it, it's a hard slog being an original band at the moment.

Secondly, do you, or anyone you know, like to play bass? And do you, or this person who you know who plays bass want to play bass in a gigging rock band?

The Hubris are recruiting. Mark is hanging up his plucking pinkies at the end of the year and we need to find someone who can do what he can do.

We're after a bassist who likes his/her rock music. We've been compared to loads of punk bands, old and modern. John from Bruised Fruit described our recent demo thusly: "This is class - really catchy. It's like the Jam meet Green Day meet The Clash and it's a three way explosion of awesome." (Thanks John - hope you don't mind us quoting that to death!)

What we're after is someone who's, well, who's good at playing bass really. Have good attitude, be willing to practise up to twice a week, and tear up every gig we get our mitts on. Ideally the ability to backing sing would be good. Songwriting optional.

We've played quite a few gigs since we started gigging in July, and we have more gigs booked into the future. As soon as we get someone on board we have the opportunity of a load more very soon. We were played on Feile FM a couple of weeks ago, listeners texted in and asked for an encore.

Check this recent review on Gigging NI:

http://www.giggingni.com/site/review.php?id=78

Loads of scope for you to take a songwriting role if you fancy, plus we're a very easygoing bunch of people who have a good laugh as well as work hard.

If you like rock music and you want to be in a real rock band then contact me.

Bill

Electronic / Dance music in Ireland: http://www.beathoker.com

Add your own gig listings, mixes, charts, news, radio shows etc.

* FORUM *

We've opened the forum again cause a few people have been saying it would add a bit more community to the site, please use it so it doesn't get closed again!

http://www.beathoker.com/index.php?q=forum

* GIG LISTINGS *

We've made a minor change to how gigs are added to the site, the
lineup section is now a single text area instead of individual text
boxes for each act, a small change but it makes adding gigs a lot
quicker cause you can copy and paste the lineup from elsewhere :)

* NEWS SUBMISSIONS *

Don't forget you can now submit all your news stories for inclusion
on the front page of the site, any dance/electronic music related news in Ireland will be considered.

* PODCAST *

Beathoker Podcast 003 is now online, an all Irish producer mix from
System 47

* DIRECTORY *

If you arent already in our links directory, add yourself!
