When an injustice like this is committed, you can't just let it go.
After reading both the "official" write-up by the Sandusky Tribune and several accounts from both those involved during the incident and witnesses at the scene, I've come to realize that what happened was one of-scratch that-THE MOST disgusting case of discrimination I've been aware of in this area for as long as I've lived here...which has been my entire life. (Unfortunately).
Even if you read the article written by the Sandusky Tribune, it's obvious that there's something much more at work here than just a few rambunctious drunk musicians at a metal concert in a peaceful, rural beach community. It's obvious that there was a bias here before the concert even started.
Take Port Sanilac fire chief John Willis' quote as an example: "They were bellowing and singing about killing people and they...they were all wearing black. We don't need something like that in our community." About two paragraphs before this statement, Willis was quoted as saying, "You couldn't even tell what they were singing about. They were just hollering." That-along with the whole 'wearing black' bullshit, should be enough to tell you that our 'community leaders' are acting on a stigma that they developed when their kids were playing football in high school instead of using their best judgment and assessing the particular situation like they're supposed to-like what we PAY THEM as taxpayers to do.
Look, I wasn't there on Saturday when all this happened. I have no idea what exactly went down, and I never will. But, I do know that after reading both "official" police accounts and stories written by "independent" media outlets in our community, things already seemed a little weird. After checking out what several people-most with no relation to one another-had to say about that night, I came to terms with the fact that this really was a complete spin by not only those who are expected to deliver information to us in an unbiased, accurate way, but by those who are expected to protect us and represent our best interests as taxpaying citizens of the community, no matter what color BEEPING shirt we wear.
As a concert promoter, this story really caused me to raise my eyebrows. I guess that's why I'm writing this blog about it. It hit a little close to home.
It made me think, "BEEP, what if the concert I'm putting together this weekend gets busted up by the cops? AM I, ALONG WITH EVERYONE THERE, GOING TO BE PUT AT RISK OF BEING TAZERED OR ARRESTED BASED SOLELY ON THE COLOR OF THE SHIRT WE'RE WEARING OR THE TYPE OF MUSIC WE LIKE?"
Something needs to be done about this. It's disgusting. It's fascism. It's a disgrace to the country we live in, which, last I checked, is made up of a society that RESPECTS its citizens, no matter what their personal beliefs are...as long as it's not a threat to others.
Start acting. I've posted everything you'll need below. Write letters. Call those responsible and voice your opinion. It's time our generation stand up and tell closed minded adults that they need to respect us and our style of music, just like what they did in the late sixties with the whole Jim Morrison/Janis Joplin thing.
Nothing is going to get done with me sitting here bitching about this. No one is going to get anywhere if you read this and get all bothered and mutter something about how what happened was ridiculous.
I'm writing a letter to both area newspapers, as well as the Sanilac County commissioners, and ever member of the Port Sanilac village council.
While we may not get far in this biased, ridiculously corrupt community we live in, at least we'll be doing something. We'll be showing these washed up BEEPS that we aren't always going to be cheerleaders and football players, we're going to all be unique and appreciate different things, even if it's something that confuses them or makes them uncomfortable.
Do something. Please. Do something. This is bullshit, and we, as young people, need to make our voices heard.
Do something. Do something. Do something. I beg of you. Please. Do something. (Please be civil and non-threatening. We're not going to get anywhere by sending an e-mail with nothing but a giant "BEEP YOU" right int he middle of it).

A little about Harold and The Underlying Ruin,
I am here to help out my son Tim and his band “The Underlying Ruin”.
I try to book as many shows as I can to help spread the Heavy Hitting Metal Sound the guys create.
I promote the shit out of every show we ever book. All you need to do is look at the bulletins coming from me here and from the band site here at myspace.com/lamiametal. You’ll also see me promoting the shit out of shows on the band site on detroitcity.com Just click on the picture of the guys that say’s Detroit . com. It’ll take you right to the site I run there for the band. The Underlying Ruin has been holding Number 2 in the Top 10 list on Detroit City . com. Click on the picture at the top of my page and it will take you right to the bands myspace page.
You’ll find that any show The Underlying plays, they are always at the doors at the time asked to be there. Given the schedule doesn’t change a week before the show. We have guys that work and have families. We have guys in college attending CMU. So, last minute changes in times may result in someone showing up a tad late. The guys that work need to leave early for earlier check in times and they must give a week notice to do so. But there will always be someone at the doors when asked to be for check in.
I am always looking for shows that pay. So, if anyone has a show they feel the guys are suited for, give me a shout by phone or a simple e-mail here on myspace is fine. I can always be reached at (810) 614-4312. I am an early riser, so if you get my voicemail, leave a message and I will return your calls.
I am currently looking for sponsors for the band as well. Someone who is willing to help out with money for equipment updates. Guitar strings, drum sticks and skins as needed. I will advertise the hell out of any that is willing to help out. Please, hit me up with any ideas.
